Doing a bit of digging on the online parts catalogue, and found these discrepancies. 'A' and 'B' refers to Omega A, and B...

My point being - the rear backplates appear identical in the pictures, but have different part numbers. (EPC lists the 'A' as fitting Vectra A, Omega A, Calibra, and Senator B - but NOT Omega B. 'B' lists this as only for Omega B, no other vehicles)
Interestingly, when I looked at front brake shields, the pictures are clearly slightly different... but this time listed as being the very same part number!
My logic being - should I see a decent set of back plates for a Calibra, Carlton, Senny, Cav Mk III, whether they will or won't fit an Omega. Anyone have experience of these? Thanks :y

I'd have thought that who ever built the EPC used generic drawings ::)

Fair point. I'm sure, I know that there are differences. But nevertheless, my point being - Carltons and Omegas are very very similar underneath, with lots of parts interchageable - and I'm just suggesting something that may be mutually beneficial to Omega, Carlton, Senny, Calibra and Mk III Cav owners - bearing in mind that there are fairly helfty clubs supporting those aforementioned cars, and not as much (outside this forum) supporting the Omega Bs. Any parts that we can find that will work from another car in the event ours become unservicable, or vice-versa, must surely be a good thing. :)

Part numbers can also change (so I've been led to believe) when/if parts latterly come from a different supplier

Yup :) Just wondering as either... the Calibra boys have a shed full of these, which may be useful to us, as ours turn to paper then dust... alternatively, the calibra boys are all holding theirs together with chewing gum and hope, desperate for a replacement, when you can still walk into your Vx dealer and get an Omega one that'd fit fine.
Further thought - as old stock is sold off cheap, whereas the Omega may not yet be quite old enough to warrant this - the Calibras, Mk III Cavs Carltons etc.. certainly are, and rather than paying £40 or whatever the Vx price is, we may be able to get a suitable, genuine GM part for much less... All 'what ifs' at this stage, I know, but it one person to notice that a VW van clutch fits a Lotus Carton, thus saving LC boys many many pennies!
Wondering if such as AndyC or someone at a Stealer might be able to make a visual comparison?

May be something to do with supersession of the Omega back plates. Can't check the numbers with VXM but i'll have a look monday

Really, never heard this one as we are now have them re-build, What van?

Oh got a funny feeling the caliper is ate a slight different angle so the gap in the back plate is different. I know Carlton pads will fit the Omega Caliper if you file out the pin holes in the pads, and not by much.

They changed the retaining pin setup on the rear back plates hence the supersession
The original had pins that located in a slot in the back plate and were inserted from the front, the later ones have pins inserted from the rear. :y

Indeed they did, good sir :) I forgot about that mod... however, knowing my V6 has had the retrograde fitment of the later (MFL onward, I think?) slotted washer and pin design, it's perfectly possible to do this on the Senny and early Omega backplates. So if, for example, I saw a stack of mint shiny black Senator B backplates at Billing Autojumble my question is - are they worth getting for the Omega? In spite of the small difference Mark pointed out, which I plain forgot about. I'm suspecting they'd be ok, now, the more I think about it...

Cants see them being an issue, you can still fit the pins in the improved orientation :y

That's good to know. So basically, for future reference, if you see some rear shields for Senny B, Carlton/Omega A, Omega B, Cav III/Vectra A, Calibra. (Goes without saying those models listed with rear discs, not drums)
And front shields for Omega A, B and Senny B should all be interchangeable. :)
