best seal for metal surfaces is epoxy.. you can also apply with brush.. and when it hardens you can even hammer it..

Will it need a primer first cem?

I'm presuming this is bare metal been welded in due to rust, then driven in damp conditions. Would it be slightly rusty aleady?

Personally wouldn't bother with any Waxoil product as the stuff just washes off as soon as it gets sprayed with water.

Bilt Hamber products get a better reception in the car restoration world:-

Its had a coat of spray to protect it, but keen to do it better ASAP.

My choices this week are what I can get on a normal retail park, or some grim parts place that only want to sell LEDs.

Not if you use Epoxy primer! It's available in rattle cans that are good for spot priming small repairs. Available from your local paint supplier.

nope.. its a primer also..

I usually use glasurit epoxy on metals.. and sand meta surface with 80.. but can be used even without sanding..  also Mr Dtms epoxy can be used..
