Title: 2.0DTi Glow plugs
Post by: TheBoy on 21 November 2014, 16:01:50
I vaguely recall somebody saying to warm the engine first. Or did I dream that bit?

I certainly never did on the TD Tractor.

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning ;D

I did all six on my Skoda recently, What I did was take it out for a warm up, up to operating temperature, drove it straight in the garage, then using a deep 10mm socket sat squarely on the plug, gently undo them a turn, then tighten slightly. Keep working them back & forth increasing the undo stroke as you go. As you get to the end of the thread they 'can' be a bit of a pain, but just keep working them back and forth. Patience is key really, as you don't want to break one off in the head  ::)

I did 5 of em easy peasy, but as of the law of sod, there's always one really stiff one which I nearly bottled out of doing, I cracked it off a turn squirted some plusgas down it, left it for a while & it came out with a little persuasion  :o :o :o

Hmmm, are they a git then?  Only ever did glowplugs on the tractor, and they were no problem at all.

Not a bad job. DTi easy. Warm engine reduces risk of breaking one off but warm is fine, no need to have it scalding :y

They are normally easy on an iron head, the short ones on PSA diesels always seem to come out ok too,but I've had issues in the past with Astra / Zaffy ones :-\
