Post by: Wil on 29 November 2014, 13:29:10
Hi, have had a look to see if my problem as cropped up before.. but with no real luck!! - The other day i had put my  bag to go to work in rear drivers side door, but when i got to work it would not open, still will not.. the outside handel is not stiff, does not respond to cenral locking, the knob in side just will not come up- solid as.... other doors open ok on fob, now i"am guessing something as failed, or the solenoid? were is this , and whats the best way to approach this job ? , its a 20.I 16v  ,1999.. any help would be great... thankyou.

Molegrips to pull the locking pin up... then use the door as designed :y

Ooh er... :o

It is, but it will also pull up :y if it pulls the button off, try again on the bare rod... if that doesn't work then you have bigger issues than a duff motor :-\

Sensible head on for a second...

Open the drivers door. You can then access the loom for the rear door. Check for breaks/chaffing where the loom enters both the door and the car. If it's a simple busted wire, then as you fix it the door should unlock... rear solenoids are pretty bombproof as a rule :y

used mole grips, but didnt grip it- as it would of broke it, used bottom jaw to push knob up :y gos up and down ok by hand now.. Checked wires all appear to be as- new.. and undamaged, so iam thinking the solenoid as failed.. :-\ thanks for your info..
