Title: Just a quick question...
Post by: The Sheriff on 03 December 2014, 13:11:08
.....when you guys get your tools out and change engines or bits of bodywork or suspension etc., do you let your insurance company know?
I've had some crazy quotes which have stopped me buying just because someone has chavved it up a liitle.

And another one (sorry), are you honest about your annual mileage? (In general..don't incriminate yourself on here)
I ask because, when I mentioned to my next door neighbour that my premium had gone up due to mileage, they said they only insured for 5000 but did 8 or 9.

my declared mileage is 25k and usually do slightly less.

Mileage is easy to check via MOT certificates and hence its a risk if you claim.

Nail on the head with hammer ;D IF you claim. I think most people reckon/hope that's not gonna happen.

Depends on the modifications....

If they was an optional extra at the time of ordering the car originally, they don't need to be declared...

i.e... An Omega Elite, could have left the factory with or without the Irmscher bodykit, suspension, exhaust and wheels... Just standard installation on some MV6's... The parts are 'type approved' so aren't deemed aftermarket so not a modification, they dont need to be mentioned at the time of insurance renewal...

So I understand it :)

Yes. Be nice if the insurance company saw it that way too.  ;D

I generally declare a couple of thousand miles over what i usually do because insurance companies are evil and will use anything to get outta paying. so just in case....

My Insurance company told me (and it is in the small print) that Mileage will not affect the insurance cover, but may increase the excess.

eSure is the company, although for about 4-5 years previous I was with Elephant.

I am insured for 10k per annum.  Last year, I covered just shy of 4k.  Had I exceeded the 10k, I would still be insured, but they may increase my excess in the event of a claim.

I hate insurance companies. :-\

Along with  greedy overpaid bankers they would be my choices should Frank Skinner invite me to take part on Room 101.

Shithead Jeremy Kyle would be choice number three. :y

Anything not Oe I declare. All the Irmscher stuff, the lpg, and the brakes.

Haven't bothered with ice stuff, minimal actual cost there anyway, and non of it is visible.

Although, the Irmscher stuff was all a factory fit option, which shuts them up nicely. The fact some parts are no longer available, like some springs, means fitting other parts gets some riggle room.

The list of extras on the Plod one is quite entertaining... but includes all the lights, Irmscher bits, brakes and although not fitted, the battenburg as well. Bizarrely, they didn't ask for a copy of my letter of authority for all the plod gubbins ???
