Hi all,
I recently purchased a used CCR2006 to replace the non standard head unit (Sony) in my non Bose MV6.
All working ok , but volume is not great . Fairly loud, but what is concerning me is that there is no distorsion at all when it is
on max volume. Also everytime I switch the HU on , I get a "Bose Sound" message in the info display.
Could this be that the head is configured for Bose use? There is no "Bose" logo anywhere on the HU front panel .
Guessing that the only way to check it & if so re-configure it , would be with a Tech 2 :-\ :-\
Any advice greatly appriciated . . . TIA Al ;)
-
Sounds like it Al from what you have discribed, the 2006 is a bit of a funny one, some are configurable with a Tech 2 for Bose / Standard, some are not, and some are also Bose only out of the Vx Replament Box.
-
If the volume changes quite a bit with each tiny click of volume control, its set for Bose.
If it is set for Bose, a Tech2 can set it for non-Bose, as all Bose capable CCR2006 can be set to either. Not all CCR2006 are Bose capable.
Given the lack of (known) Tech2's in your area, will it wait for Wycombe? I wouldn't trust an illegal, unsupported, hacked code reader to do this (even if it could) due to its deserved reputation for killing ECUs it programs.

No problem waitng for Wycombe TB ;) I will do the volume control check tomorrow & post up result
Could it still show a "Bose sound" message in the info display even it was not configured for Bose then ?
Thanks for the replies from yourself , Zirk & Dave DND :y :y

Can't remember if Bose message is in MID or CCR2006 :-[ - I normally rip out such systems in mine, and shove in NCDC/GID/CID.

I know there is a Bose setting in the MID, but not sure if the message "Bose Sound" comes from MID, or passed over from HU.
Sorry for my laziness in typing, and not being clear :-[

Still sticking with MID as I know you have to enable it on a CID for it to show the Bose Logo.

True :y
EBA - was your MID changed at same time as CCR?

No TB . . . MID was in this car when I got it from Tall Paul
I checked out the volume control . . . seems to work as normal . . . no dramatic increase with each notch :-\
But as said no real distortion when flat out . . .
The CCR2006 fitted in my last non Bose MV6 , as I recall, seemed to be quite a bit louder than this one is :-\ :-\

Sounds about right - BOSE units have a much quieter output when connected directly to speakers, as they are supposed to be connected via an amp

I think your find that scenario happens when people install a Non Bose HU into a Bose set up ie, feeding a Bose Amp, the results are that you go from a low to a very loud level in just a few Volume clicks (overdriving the Amps input).
If a Bose HU is driving a standard Speaker set up (non Bose) then the Volume level range will be normal but be it a bit quieter and lack of noise on full blast.
A Bose HU will still chuck out a couple of watts into a 4 ohm speaker (2 to 3 from memory) so you will get low level sound from it. ;)

Yeah, soz, I'm arse about face. Sounds like you are in Bose mode.
Soz for the misinfo :-[

Bit of an update on this:
Managed to get a VGC (as new in fact) Sony minidisc/radio head unit from flea bay. Won it for 26 pounds ;D ;D ;D
OK minidisc is a bit old hat now , but being a musician (of sorts) I have a huge amount of stuff on this format as well as having a recorder to "sync" record any CD I want to hear in the car ;)
I have taken the CCR 2006 out & fitted this. The sound is so much better than the CCR 2006 & the volume is mega ::)
I need to get a patch lead/s to enable steering wheel controls to work , but I am very very pleased with my 26 quid purchase ;D ;D
So . . . although I understand that the Sony will maybe have a more powerful built in amp , I'm guessing from the huge volume increase & much better all round sound , that my CCR2006 is set to Bose mode :-\ :-\
Also no annoying beeps every time you switch off like the previous Sony CD/radio that was fitted when I got the car ;) ;)
-
OK minidisc is a bit old hat now ,
Yea, it is a bit old now, can you still get disks for them?
I can do better than that though, I got a Sony Rack Mounted version of the MiniDisk kicking around somewhere, an almost unused Casio DA1 (Portable DAT Recorder), an Sony PCM Adaptor (Records PCM Digital Music on a VHS), Some Tascam Studio Cassette Decks, a shed load of Various DBX Processors, Ah those were the days, Crack, Pop, whistle and Hiss. ;D

Seem to be plenty on flea bay Chris . . . maybe not too abundant in shops now . . but i've got 50 odd new sealed packet ones & a couple of hundred used & deleteable ones here. So supply is not too important ;) ;)
The sound of this head unit is sooooooo much better & louder than the CCR 2006 plus better EQ & sound enhancement.
Old it may be . . . but suits me :D :D
To quote your . . "crack, pop, whistle & hiss" Hey ! what about a nice bit of "wow & flutter" as well ;D ;D ;D ;D
PS. let me know if you are going to "skip "that lot in the future ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Will do Al, but you may have to lend a hand carrying me Cofin out before that happens though, ::)

The Beeps are switchoffandonable ;)
Autoleads do the patch gubbins, need the Sony specific adapter as well...

Like that word Al . . . "switchonandoffable" . . . right out of the Saffend book of Inglish lingo ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Got the MD/radio all working off the steering wheel now with the patch leads . .works & sounds great :y :y :y
Only down point is no track or radio station on the MID . . . shows blank middle line when radio is on & shows date on middle line when minidisc is on . . . . but reading the thread searches on here I knew that anyway ;) ;)

A lot of the Sony units around that era used to be able to run the MID display via an interface that plugged into the cd changer unilink socket (if your unit has one)
The interface was quite expensive, and as rare as hens teeth nowadays, but you never know what is lurking in peoples garages these days
Sorry, cannot help with model number, but seem to recall it was probably a Sony branded interface

hi Dave ,
thanks for posting that follow up :y . OK . .right There is another socket on the back of the unit just next to the main
connection block and pull out blade fuse. It is a round socket with what looks like several contact points in it .Could this be the "Unilink" socket ?
I have the main connector block in place (obviously . .Doh ! :-[) the ariel plug is in , there are several phono sockets but not being used , there is the small
3.5mm jack socket which the steering wheel patch lead is plugged into and that leaves this other socket .
Be a lot easier if I could post a photo of the back of unit . . . but as said before on here I am a total "PC muppet" :-[ :-[
Seems my chances of getting the interface for this are very slim . . but as you said . . You never know what some people keep in their sheds ::) ::)
Can you tell me what to start searching for ? would it be a" MID display interface for a Sony MDX-F5800 ? "
TIA Al ;) ;)

With regards to the above post . . . Sony installation manual calls what I think may be the unilink socket
the "Bus Control In" if that helps anyone :-\
-
They're the same thing ;)
Curious to know how it connects to the car wiring though :-\
I have a couple of different source selectors, but none do what Dave described :-\
Specifically XA-C40 and XA-C45...
-
Sony MDX-F5800 used an XA-C30 source selector. Al, the unilink socket is indeed the circular port next to the blade fuse
-
Thanks Al & Rob . . . a bit outta my depth with this to be honest . ::) ::)
From Dave's post, I was thinking along the lines that it would be another "Autoleads" type interface connection like the PC99 & patch lead I've used to get the steering wheel controls working.
As far as Al's question of how it would connect to the cars exisiting wiring . . . there is one section of the original large VX blue ISO connector behind the head unit that is still not being used . Could the interface Dave is talking about plug into that with other end into the "unilink" ?
But as said , out of my depth here . . . ::) ::) ::)

Had a dig through the car, corrected my earlier post...
Also found an XA-300...

Yes, BUS IN is the Unilink socket
Cannot find the Sony part number, but did find a Connects2 number that we used to supply many years ago (no, I don`t have any)
Connects2 CTDOPS004
You are going to need to research compatibility with that head unit, but this was an aftermarket display interface for Sony > Vauxhall

This the gubbins?

Guess the Sony item looks similar in arrangement :-\

But guessing my HU is so old they will think I'm taking the pee ;D ;D ;D

Yep - thats the kiddie - but you need to confirm that your head unit will support it - if they still have stocks, then they should still have the compatability charts to advise - suggest give them a call :y

Hi Dave & Taxi Al , had a reply from Essex Styling . . . that stalk/display adaptor is no longer available :'( :'( :'(
Oh well guess I''ll keep looking ::) ::)

If Dave can rustle the Sony part number up from the ether of time, there's a few places to look :y
