Just been to my local Barclays branch . . quite a large one I may add
The queue was almost out of the door, so Saturday morning 9am -2pm opening is obviously very popular :y
But only one member of staff on at the counter ::)
Dismayed to see several large posters inside saying that Saturday opening is ceasing from 2 Jan :o
Alongside one of these posters was another poster saying that " Barclays listen to there customers requests for change"
Everyone in the queue was moaning about the Saturday closing . . . but the girl at the counter was repeatedly saying that
customer feedback was that Saturday opening was not needed. ::) ::)
Other information I gathered from customers in the queue while waiting was that, Barclays are soon to do away with counter
staff all together & machine banking will only be available in most branches :o :o :o
Maybe I'm a bit old school but time to switch one thinks :( :(

In order of uselessness....
1 Lloyds
.
.
.
.
.
2 Barclays
3 idiotwest
.
.
.
4 hsbc/first direct. They still have their moments but are way better than the others.
Although paying in is likely equally challenging. Tbh

Re 3. That's not what I typed.

Everytime I go into Lloyds, I am confronted by a greeter asking me why I am there and did I know about their newfangled pay in machine which takes cash and cheques. Thus far I have stopped short of telling them to sod off, but always insist on queuing to pay cash in.
The reason, even the cashiers use a machine to count the notes, and it rejects about 10% of them due to creases and other damage. So if I were relying on the machine in the lobby, I would need to pay that extra in just to ensure bills were paid, which kind of defeats the object.
If I can, I use my local branch, even though it's only open Monday to Friday 9-3.30. The cashiers are friendly, and identify you by face, not by having to read it of the card/screen. Not sure how long they'll be open for as each manager is more incompetent than the previous ones which doesn't bode well :-\

I keep telling him...
T w a t t is a hamlet in Orkney ::)
See... (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/idiott,_Orkney)
Bugger. The wordfilter changes disguised links too :o that's almost impressive ::)
Ok, google maps shows it at the junction of the A986 and A987 between Birsay and Dounby. If that place in Umberside is allowed, then so should that place in Orkney... incidentally there's one in Shetland too

;D I think he's in one of his moods Al, it's not personal, apparently. ;D

Manflu most likely... does funny things to gay, middleaged men :-*
Anyway, that Barclays tale comes of no surprise at all tbh :-\

I bank with the cooperative bank, have done for the past 5 years, get online banking and very helpful friendly staff, when I pop in to local branch to pay cash in, but they hand count the notes, so any Scottish, NI notes ive taken isn't a problem ;)
Never have to wait more than 5 mins to get served, which is useful as I always park outside on double yellows ;D
Ive noticed if the queue starts to build up and the 3 (max) windows are open, always another member of staff appears asking if anyone is paying in cheques only, as she will take those :y
Just a shame really they took a hit last year and the other branches of the coop have been bailing them out.....only got 1p/£1 spent back at coop supermarket, last time round and no bonus payment :(
Still, my energy account is with the coop as well....and they add a point to your coop card for every pound spent on energy and 50 points every month for sending in your readings online every month :y

Yes, online banking is the way of the future and certainly 99% of my transactions I manage online now.
The day of high street branches, at the level we see now, has got to be limited as more customers select online services and the banks try to say money (to pay fines!! ::) ::)). One day cash will become a thing of the past, so who will need a branch then, especially once the older, non-computer using people, die off. ;)
-
But what about the small cash businesses, e.g. taxi owners? It will be bad news for them, although I guess many have card readers now. ???
-
When i,m approached by a bank staff member asking me if i would like to use the automated machines i say,"no thanks, and
you should be grateful that i am safeguarding your jobs by not using them". That sometimes raises a wry smile. :P

We all know what the late lamented Kenneth Williams meant by "Barclay's". don't we?!!!

Sorry Lizzie but that will never happen . . . cash will always be king ;D ;D ;D

It already is Al. I understand that you have to use an Oyster or other card on London transport now. An NCP car park has already gone cash less down here. No doubt other examples are around, as the handling of cash is expensive, a security risk, and the banks do not want to handle it. In addition many people are now preferring to use a debit cards for everything, so like cheques, cash will slowly become redundant. The revolution has arrived! ;D ;D :y

It's in the governments best interest for us to no longer hold cash .. that way it's easier for them to seize all our assets when everything finally goes pop and we become a totalitarian police state.

I'm glad somebody else has spotted that. :y :y :y

That's because NCP car parks are so expensive that you can't carry enough cash for the ticket! ::) ;D

Even when you pay in cash the funds take 24 hours to land in your account, unlike paying over the counter which sees the account credited instantly.

You mean having cash stops the government from seizing our assets? No, I don't think so. If the government are brave enough to seize our assets (as with death duties) and gamble on getting our votes, then they will no matter what ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

Cash is anonymous :y, cards leave a trail :(
I always use cash whenever possible. :y

Glad someone has remarked on that point ;)
Cash will never disapear . . . the criminal fraternity would never allow it :-X :-X :-X
As for CCTV useless in a majority of cases :-\

What was that song by the Beatles?
Oh yes.....back in the USSR. ;D

Cash will go one day. We must do away with monetary values. Must be true Captain Kirk said.

Carnt see HMRC checking every CCTV going, to see when I pay cash for say, a new tv, that I didn't forget to declare the cash...that I used....not that I would not declare it of course :)
