Just acquired a mint steering wheel from DiamondBlackGeezer :y
I note that the contactor unit that sits behind the wheel has instructions to rotate it 2.5 times anticlockwise before fitting?
Why?
What happens if I get it wrong? Indeed is it possible to?
Am I best just leaving the one already on the car in place and ditching the one that came with the wheel?

Black plastic thing that the wiring from the wheel connects to. :)

Believe it to be,,,air bag / indicator cancel mechanism .... ..if they are the same why not just leave your one where is is :y

The 'clock' has a long ribbon cable inside which winds and unwinds as you turn the steering wheel.
Instructions state the 2.5 turns so the ribbon is correctly positioned, get it wrong and the ribbon can over tighten and snap or invert and then snap.
Of course if just swapping the wheel it will already be correctly positioned.

I'll just add / reiterate what the guy at the scrappy told me to tell you (he used to work in Vx garage)
Make sure you fit everything 'dry first' so don't go tightening everything up 'done' then turn the ignition on, only to find the airbag warning light is on, for example. (fear not, you won't have your head blown off if something's wrong, it just saves you hassle) (So wheel 'sat on' with no nut fitted, let airbag sit in by gravity, etc.. )
Once this is done, whether using the original from your car, or the 'new' one, check the radio controls work - it's a 99.9% bet that if they're not working, then you've got a damaged ribbon, and therefore an airbag that won't deploy. In which case, replace/swap the ring over.
When everything's working as it should, then tighten everything. Fairly important you remember this step ::) Sounds silly - but get the wheel in the same place as it was before, very easy to get it 1 spline out.
Basically the 'ring' I included was literally to give you the freedom of choice. Use that, or the original (and therefore guaranteed working) from your car. But as they're a bit delicate, with a fairly fragile ribbon inside, I though might as well chuck it in.
NB: The above was told me by the scrappy man, and not 'from me' so if anything's incorrect, I reserve the right to play the ''I'm only saying wot he told me'' card :y :y
Personally, I'd test both, then sell either tested working ring on OOF, and get some money back from the extortionate price I charged you :y
Also piccies of it when fitted and a coat of leather feed/damp cloth wiped over, please!

Just left the one on the car, looking at it you'd have to take the cowling off to release it which, as the one fitted is absolutely fine, I saw no reason to go that far. :y

Good stuff - the cowling was already ripped off the scrap yard one, so just got off what I could.
I've done a wheel before, but as you did, just left the ring thing where it was, never went that far. Can't wait to see what it looks like on your motor ;D

Worth keeping the other as a spare, they do occasionally fail (usually throwing airbag fault) :)
