If you needed to know your car's VIN / chassis number in a hurry, and you don't have the log book handy, try typing-in the registration mark in this site:

That's gotta be a security concern; that's my car's personal information, and therefore mine!

i typed my numbers in the wrong order and my mig came up as a massey ferguson tractor,gave me a big fright . :o ;D

I am not sure of the legality of such information being in the public domain.
Such info is (as I understand) only available to either law enforcement peeps or on payment of a fee from DVLA/Experian etc..... ::)
