Title: Down pipe heat shields
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 20 December 2014, 14:09:58
The offside one has disintegrated and fallen off and the nearside is not far off doing the same.  :(

Does it matter?  ???  Am I likely to burst into flames?  ???  Where can I get them?  ???

TIA.  :y

I think they come with the catalyst section if you buy genuine Vx items. Their function is to protect nearby components from heat from the downpipe. At risk are crank sensor cables and rubber items.

Bin 'em.
You won't notice their absence, unless they rattle at the moment.

Whilst it may prematurely ruin the steering idler (esp on 2.6/3.2), its not really a problem.  Think mine came off years ago, along with all the under-car heatshield ;D

Guess I could use something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10m-PRO-TEMP-Exhaust-Insulating-Ceramic-Heat-Wrap-HEADER-MANIFOLD-4-2-1-TIES/170696758674?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28111%26meid%3D036b006c81f9457289914a389d1f3e7d%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D11472%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D291287793167&rt=nc) if I can be arsed.  :-\  But I'm feeling quite benevelant towards my ole girl at the mo.  ;)

Access will be difficult to replace them especially if the bolts snap  :(

The originals are brazed or welded around the down pipe and I don't think it's possible to 'slide' something down the pipe without cutting it and welding it up afterwards which I'm not going to do, but I might think about something like the 'bandage' that I linked to.  :)

I don't think it's a big deal, but I guess they were designed with a heatshield...  :-\

That's what I have on mine.   Works better than the original shields.
