Tis normally the door solenoids that give up. Think control unit is behind A piller kick panel.

Indeed :y drivers side, about level with the bottom of the dash... end section of the dash comes off to improve access... follow Haynes ;)

For reference, on cars with alarms, ie non plod, the unit does both functions and is different so double check part numbers with the unit in the car prior to fitting. The reason being that plod cars are built with an Elite loom, but alot of the 'civilian' items such as the alarm looms are terminated in the loom rather than at plugs... so plugging the wrong ecu in might cause you issues :-\

Behind drivers kick panel.

So, lift off the trim panel at bottom of door opening, undo at least 3 of the now visible torx, slightly bend trim out of way to reveal torx for kick panel, and there is another screw near bonnet release lever.  Kick panel then slides back.

If replacing ECU, ensure you know new ECU's security code in order to be able to program fobs.
