Hi all,and a happy new year.Just got back from the local garage,as my battery was furbbard.Got a new one 66ah at £66.00,while i was there.Asked him to look at the exhaust, puts it on the lift guess what. Both cats blowing, one middle box blowing and back box rusted through.Asked for a quote to replace the whole lot,£438 including fitting.Wondered what you lot think of the price. He did also say that's if the lambers come out,if not it will be more.I would be glad of your thoughts.Dean. :( :-\

Where are the cats blowing, very unusual for them to blow.

Hi TB one one pass side, front of the joint(weld)drivers side rear of the joint(weld)if you know what i mean.
-
BTW i did get under the car with him,and could feel the exhaust gasses blowing on my hand.

Which weld, the pipe to cat? Unusual. To the point of I'd be inclined to get rewelded, based on fact that pattern cats are truly awful.
Both mid sections and rear box should be about £100 delivered, and will be of far better quality than tat Bosal shite that an exhaust place will fit.

Yes pipe pass side from engine to cat, drives side pipe back to mid section mate.

TB where would i get the mid and back from for £100.And dare i ask how much for cats.

Weld the cats, don't even consider going pattern as they are truly rubbish.
Check out ETS on ebay for exhaust system

The exhausts are very good quality, far better than what an exhaust place will supply. The "fitting kit" isn't so great, so don't be surprised if you have to spend an extra £10 down Halfords to get odds and ends.

Thanks TB,BTW anyone on here do welding. ;D

I came past Hartlepool Friday night. Didn't have my welder though. I woulda taken it and swung by if I'd have seen your thread.
By all means you can come to me mate so PM me if needed if you can't find anyone closer.
I have never done an on car weld before so for efficiency I'd suggest getting the bolts off the cat before you come down. That way we can easily take the cat off, get it welded up and slapped back on.
As for the weld itself, we can try and get it cleaned up and welded. But perhaps if it's far gone we could use some steel to cover the blowing area. What do others think?
Got any pics mobile, might help determine best approach :y

Ps as most know from my welding blog thread I'm new to welding. But I got quite comfy with it now. I'd be worried and wouldn't do a critical weld like when peeps make their own jack stands lol but for welding up an exhaust I'm sure I can cover that :y

A trip to northampton should be on everyone's bucket list ;D
As said, here if needed if local welder can't be sourced :y
