Is it a screw on type or an insert type? (Sorry don't know the technical name) it looked like a screw on from the limited view I've got of it but when the wife came back from the auto factors, it's an insert type

If its the same as the zafira, unscrew the screw in the top of housing, lift of top, remove filter,if there are o rings with new filter replace them, insert new filter, now will be a good time to fill fuel filter with a diesel fuel injector cleaner, then replace top of housing, refit screw,DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN and then start car, might take a few turns till it fires up.

If the car wont start you may pull with another because his dristribution is on chain ( good thing- no risc) and his has no lift pump, just injection pump and for this reason it may possible to not start.
