....when a fault has been bugging you for a while and you could not understand it. Then you have a eureka moment while you calm down and realise how silly and obvious it was..... :-[
I installed a little PIR sensor for the light on the porch. Fitted a 4th line so that I can over ride it with a switch. All very simple and tested in twilight all ok.
Then it was constantly on every night regardless of the settings I tried. During the day it functionned as it should (ie stay off) Convinced I had a duff PIR I was about to send it back for a replacement until I had a theory which I tested and proved correct. So simple I nearly smacked my head against a wall.
What do you think was wrong? Just for the record, the PIR and settings were completely fine. Let's see how clever you are ;D

It's that obvious, it's not worth mentioning ::)
-
Switch was on the wrong side of the sensor... :-\
-
I've read it, and re read it. turned it over in my head a dozen times. I am having to give up.........I don't know what a PIR is ???
-
Need to remove the cellophane from the sensor ;D
Thats also just a guess cos ive no idea what a PIR sensor is either ;D
-
PIR = Passive InfraRed sensor (although that might give it away ::))
The type that knows if you walk in front of it. :y
-
Passive infrared sensor.
Beat me to it! ;D

Nope, wiring at the switch was fine as was the wiring at the PIR and the light.

Still obvious ::)

Clearly not ;D

The light (or a.n.other heat source) pointing towards it
-
Either next to porch light or boiler exhaust...

I thought virtually all PIRs had an override by turning on-off-on in quick succession
-
The pir wasnt connected to the light ::) ::)

Plants, trees or bushes moving within the line-of-sight ??

There's a clue here somewhere, but I be buggered if I can see it... ::)
;D

Possibly it wasn't passive .. it was loose and "blowing in the wind" ??? :)

The clue being 'infra red' ;)

Although no one has it spot on, the warmest is TB.
No movement i the field of vision. No boiler exhaust. And the sensor is switching on the porch light so it cannot be that ;-)

Not got a CCTV camera in the vicinity?

Not got a CCTV camera in the vicinity?
:y :y
Hence why the fault only happens at night.....when the camera switches to night mode and switches on its IR LEDs.......trust me it took me a lot longer than you lot ;D
