Was the car left alone while sealant"went off"?Or could it just be old residue burning off?

Have a grope around the back of the cam covers... are the 'half moons' seated correctly?

Is it using oil?

Are your cam covers OK?  :-\  As they can go out of shape if the bolts are over tightened and I suspect with age and mileage anyway being plastic.  ;)

That could be coming from the front end of the camcovers...

Any oil in the plug wells?

It's a 2.6 so probably Valve Stem Seals are responsible if it 'uses a bit of oil'.
