Title: 2001 mk5 fiesta
Post by: Dan282 on 06 January 2015, 20:57:18
I've just bought one as a bit of a toy/runaround. Now I only paid 200 quid and im aware of the normal rust issues. Anyone owned one of these. Old little car now but such fun to drive. 2001, 86k. Few advisories for slight corrioson but mechanically pretty good(http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j222/puma282/Mobile%20Uploads/10887809_1523528437896508_1569437936_n_zpssuafhnmr.jpg) (http://s81.photobucket.com/user/puma282/media/Mobile%20Uploads/10887809_1523528437896508_1569437936_n_zpssuafhnmr.jpg.html)

Can't grumble at that price ;)

Probably an ex Channel Islands hire car, used to come here after 3/6/12 months and make up most of Fords Approved Used program :-\

Could well be mate as it was registered October 2001 but it's a y plate. Should be a 51 plate.

That be why then ;)

Not bad cars for small family transport, quite entertaining to drive iirc...

Cheers. Cambelt is a few years off. Just sills showing signs of the rust.

Rust in the sills/arches/rearfloor pans is the biggest issue, but that shouldn't be a surprise considering how old the structure is.
Mechanically they're pretty good; the 16v engines need cambelts(what modern engine doesn't?) and the OHV engines can have problems with seized sparkplugs.
Front wishbones fail, but they're only a few quid and don't have any alignment issues.

Even the 'problems' are dull, so it's probably the pick of small, cheap cars.

I wish I could find a good one for that sort of money; I want it for my sister. Which sounds like a good swap to me!

1.7 vct Ford puma engine 125 bhp which can be increased by a frp  remap and frp cams.
When cambelt is due make sure they know how to do it properly because if they don't it's a new engine job.

I am yet to see a Fiesta of that age that isn't, they rot underneath like nobodies business.

You almost sound surprised ;D

They're basically a Mk3 underneath, designed in the mid 80s ::)
