I received a nice letter this morning. :y
Apparently I have a small pension that I can cash in next month if I choose to. I had long forgotten about this because the pension scheme only ran from 1988 to 1990. In fact I have no record of it.
According to the letter I have two options.
1.....A cash payment of £2654 and roughly £300 each year until I drop off the perch.
2.....No cash payment and £543 a year.
I'm minded to take option 1.
It's a win-win situation because I genuinely have no knowledge of paying into this pension scheme. :y
Now then.....can I buy a decent new car for £2643?

That would buy Jim's Irmscher! :y

I could do far worse. :y STMO's Daewoo being a prime example. ::) ::) ;)

Sorry, Opti, that meagre sum would not buy my chevrolet orlando. Perhaps if you doubled it and threw in a go of your sister in law.

Shit......and I was expecting £1500 cashback, too. ;D ;D

You would be daft not to go for option 1 as option 2 is a gamble on how long you will live......and given your track record of impacts from laptops and passing lorries......
-
£6 a week and a couple of grand or £10 a week. There is no decision to make, surely?

I wonder how many other people will be in the same boat. If you moved house a lot it would be hard for the pension company (perhaps) to track you down although they should know your NI number.
One plus? is that £6 a week will just push you into not being eligible for a whole range of benefits that us poorer people qualify for.

I'm hoping to see Christmas 2015. Anything after that is a bonus. :)

Yep. :y
This dates back almost 30 years it's small wonder I can't remember it. ;D ;D
I'm guessing I paid in about six or seven quid a week.

I'd go for option 1, because (as Mark says) you never know how long you have got unless your GP (or doctor) tells you otherwise.

Some people have all the luck, ::)
I only heard a few weeks back of a guy I used to know well that used to work for Chubb Alarms before being taking over by zyx so many times, He was there from leaving school and worked Hes up to Management, quiet some time back He got laid off with a nice package to go and full Pension, Anyway apparently the Pension Co or whoever deals with it contacted Him recently and said there was a bit of an error in the Pension calculations, and offered Him just over another 100k as a Cash Final Settlement in addition to what He already had and is getting, if He agreed and not to pursue any further. ::)
Needless to you can guess His answer. :y

Exactly what I thought, He did have a chat with a FSA guy who said it could go either way, take time, and might affect His ongoing Pension Plans payout, and at the end of the day may cost Him money.
I think He just thought take the money and run, I think I might have done the same tbh, fat chance. ::)

Opti - take the cash and invest in 2.6 nights with your sister in law - at least you might then die with a smile on your face.
