Title: Tyres
Post by: Kieran on 16 January 2015, 21:41:47
Need a whole new set of tyres for my estate. Don't really want to do budget brand. Had a look online at different makes ie Dunlop, Michelin etc. They all seem to be in the price range of about £90.00. Had a look at Falken Ziex ZE914 coming in around £66.00. Read the reviews and seem quite good. Has anyone on here had them fitted and experience with them.

Cheers

Some people have had mixed results with Falkens... what cars were the reviews based on? Unless they're a similar weight rear wheel drive car, the results are almost meaningless :-\

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s are pretty well received on the Omega, or if budget allows, Continental Sportcontact MO or Dunlop RTs?...  :y

I had Goodyear F1 asymmetric 2`s which were quite good but seemed to move about a bit too much so I recently had some Dunlop Sportmaxx RT`s fitted on the front and while it`s early days yet and I`ve not done much mileage I quite like them although these are 97Y and the Goodyears were 93Y.
Had the Goodyears been 97Y I might have liked them more as they did have very good levels of grip.

Generally, it seems, all the Faulken 91x tyres are unsuited to the Omega. The problem won't show up until you have done 2 or 3 k on them, and then it will dance about all over the place.

My preference is Dunlop SportMAXX RT, but don't expect too many miles off them, and the later ones seem to be more prone to tramline than the previus sets I've had.

GY Assym F1s are a good tyre if you don't push too hard.  I've had 6, 3 have failed with various faults, others wore a bit quick for my liking, and didn't offer the grip I was expecting, but I do drive a little spirited sometimes.

Interesting you say that. I have them at the moment and, whilst mine normally doesn't tramline at all until the fronts are down to 3 or 4 mm, it's not as stable as it normally is on new rubber. They are quite determined to try to stop me unsticking them, though, even in the wet. :y

No probably tea using a second hand tea bag. There are probably some good buys with part worn but how do you know what unseen damage has occurred. Is it worth the risk?

The older 452's were OK if not driven too hard. My theory was if you did overdrive them early on, they'd never recover. Not tried 453's though.

Use to enjoy my drive to work, then they put average cash collection points, along the A1, so yup now sloooowed down.
If you are thinking they don't work, wrong know of 3 people been nicked, and done the speed awareness course.
A1 buckden-southoe, was a lovely set of bends at the old 70mph hofficer. :D

You're not wrong BG... Mickleham bends on the A24 tween Leatherhead and Dorking used to be a real challenge at the nsl when it was two lanes... Now at 50mph and one lane, a blind monkey could negotiate them one handed  :'(

Had some older Rainsports on my E34 525i - fantastic combination of chassis and tyre, very progressive breakaway. Could do entire laps of wet roundabouts sideways.
