Just thinking, a couple of soldering machines on fleabay, look as if they might go for cheap money. Trouble is they are in Berlin, Germany. Anybody know of a cheapish way of getting them shiped over here ?. They probably weigh between 100 and 200 lbs each.
Its about 700miles both ways, so driving over is a possibility, even better if I was running on LPG !!!!

Perhaps a pm to Gaffers or Crazydad for advice Ken as theyre both located in Germany.
-
Always available for the occassional driving job...
What you offerring??? ::)
-
I can have a look for some courriers if you wish. I am 3 hours from Berlin but not due to drive over to the UK for another few months!
-
OK, I get a bit carried away at times, what I'm talking about is :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270249019388&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=017
and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270249017966&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=017
The second one is prob of most use to me, the second is a space filler, if organising a trip I may as well pick up 2 items instead of one !.
Now I don't know how heavy they are, prob as I reconed about 150 lbs each, so maybe not suited to a Miggy boot, but if you have a 3tonner handy, then .....
Any thoughts ?.
Cheers Ken

'fraid not! :(
-
They would surly fit in an escort van or an estate car.
-
Sorry Ken, means approximately the square root of not a lot to me, as far as quoted...
Happy to drive there and back to uplift, with your knowledge and expense, for the cost of a couple of bottles of malt..... Cheap date, I know, but it passes the time.... ;)
-
OK, thanks anyway. Sometimes you find stuff cheap in all parts of the world. I bought some books from the US recently; to buy here was about £21 ea, from the US it worked out at £5 ea, including shipping!.

Aye, trouble is when you add at least 1500miles onto it, at todays fuel cost it gets silly. you end up paying more for shipping than it cost to buy in the first place.
Mind you, my recent trip to Glasgow, I managed just about 500miles on a tank. Times 3 is about £220, which is not too bad.

Nice idea, will give them a buzz in the morning. :y :y

I have a mate who works for DHL and he says they drive to Germany etc on a daily basis. Am also trying to think og the company that wears the brown uniforms, they are worth contacting.
Also, just email the sellers, if they are a business they may just be able to give you the weight, dimentions and a price delivered by cross channel courier.
Remember, cheek sometimes gets you everywhere ;D ;D :y

I'm sure they aren't that bad, I once got a cooker in the front seat of my Miggy. OK, I'm sure I can fix the plastic bits with some glue....
Mind you the wife's Corsa is very good, the cooker journey got stoped when the mig broke down, but she folded down the back seat and the cooker fitted in a dream.
I have emailed the seller asking for weights, we'll see if he responds.
Thanks for all your help and advice so far,
Talking abut Trannies, remember I said I was working next to a metal processing place ?. Well on Friday, this guy drove up in a fairly clean looking blue Transit, high top, OK "K" reg but, and just left it there, to be chewed up for scrap, to go to china for more crap to be shipped back here. Wonder if they wouldn't mind lending it too me for a couple of days ?. Its a silly world.
Cheers Ken

Translation (bit basic)
The SMD assembly machine is used and comes with accessories and frame. He is taken out of service and placed him and I have not tested. So I would like it to the order to sell half as defective.
The article location is Eberswalde near Berlin. You can pick up the equipment here, otherwise I do like him against the cost of shipping and packaging.
Please look after my other auctions for electronics manufacturing!
I wish you every success for bidding!

If it starts, goes and stops and is eligable for AA international, as said, you do the sums....
Happy to do the driver bit, just make sure its reasonably safe! ;D

yeah, I tried the free translation as well, typical tutonic efficency, absolutely correct statement, that tells you not a lot !. Hey, its just an idea. I would also like to get my hands on an Ersa IR 550A, machine, new they are over £2300, Fleabay sold one back in march for 351 euros, ok it was over in Paris, but for that money.....

You will need a passport fellas (tried without showing once and turned a bit nasty)
Always welcome to use Gaffers Towers as a stop (inexchange for a few boddingtons.... ::)). It will take you about 7hours from Dunkirke to mine (but have done it in 5 and a half) and I am about 2-3 hours from Berlin. I dont suggest going all the way to Berlin in a oner as after a trek across england and then Europe by the time I hit home I am limit safe to drive!
Huge appartment in a nice area and nice cosy double bed for you to dhare! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Surely shipping would be the cheapest way - as opposed to driving?
We have just had a pallet delivered from Berlin to our office using Business Post. The weight was 75kgs and cost £56 on a 3 day service, plus £10 insurance (value up to £20,000) - as far as I know we just have a bog standard account with them.
Might be worth looking into shipping a pallet though?
-
That sounds good, I will try and get some prices. The seller came back with sizes but no weights, so will have to guess.
Cheers Ken

Sea mail is always cheaper, although as its europe I would imagine that the difference would be negliagble anaway.

That would go someway to offset the cost of the trip :y
