You could try using your own script on them http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html

Like it :y Trouble is, for every one you get rid of there's always more to take their place. I just get very short with them and tell them it's not our company's policy to accept telesales calls and that they should send something in by post or e-mail. If that fails, I hang up.

At the office we have a nice lady that answers the phone with instructions not to let anyone through - which works well.

At home I get calls from Sky, trying to offer me to add more channels, I usually say it's good that you called, I want to take off some channels because my girls are on Sky all day long, they usually mumble something about me having to ring another department and then they hang up.

Now that's funny  ;D ;D

My friend simply repeats the phrase 'horses ass' in answer to every question - doesn't get many call backs.

I've registered with TPS and still get calls for a woman who has never lived in this house - I think it's more likely a debt collecting agency - and as they won't give up I gave them her new contact number - Carlisle Police - and surprisingly the calls have now stopped.  :-X

So I have

1) Spent ages describing my Pace Twin PVR to a Sky telephone sales person, saying how good it is and I don't pay anything monthly so why on earth would I want to spend £10 a month for a Sky + box, and also pay for channels I currently get free. Also why was the PQ better on Freeview!!!! (I reckon they bought the old Ondigital customer list) - never got a call again after that!

2) Given sales brouchures for our glass processing software to double glazing salesmen (This moves them quicker than anything else).

3) When Coldseal were still going (and owned by Hewood Williams) asking their sales people if they knew xxxx - where xxxx was someone high up in their company - BTW when they were sold off then ran into the ground we managed to get all our bills paid (no probs when Heywood Williams) by our software licencing.

Backfires have included

1) I though Mormons and JWs wew only interested in converting aethiests - nope don't claim any organised religion they still want to convert. I think I will try Jedi next time!

If you get a JW at your door all you have to say is 'Please will you enter in your book not to call here again'.

As good as gold they do, and you won't be bothered again.

When I get cold calls on the phone with special offers all I say is 'That's absolutely fantastic, I hope you sell loads, thank you for calling me', then put the phone down.

Thats quality  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Another way is to answer the phone and play loud music down the phone, they soon hang up.

Did this with some guy from india trying to get me to move telephone companies, he's not rang back since.

Another good tip is to say "yes I'm very interested in your offer..... hang on a sec something is boiling over on the cooker." then just put the phone down but don't hang up, usually after 10 minutes theyve gone.  :D

Tend not too answer numbers I don't know on the mobile, problems with that is the house phone and work come up as private numbers, most times I tend not to answer the land line, let them leave message, as most folks i know have my mobile :y

A neighbour of mine got one of those calls to tell him he'd won a free holiday. So he decided to play around a bit. The conversation went like this:

A free holiday. Great!

First, I just need to check a couple of things... Are you in full time employment?

No, I'm on the dole

Are you homeowner?

No, I rent

I'm sorry, Sir, but on this occasion you don't meet our criteria.

Huh? What about my free holiday"

Line goes dead.
