Title: What is wrong with some people!
Post by: steve6367 on 23 January 2015, 19:33:12
Sat in my lounge enjoying my tea - bang!

Pop outside to see someone leaving at high speed having modified by wing mirror for me!

So I'm lucky the side of the car is ok I guess, but is it so hard to stop and leave a note or find the owner!  >:(

Happened to us a couple of times, swmbo parks on road, I currently have a full spare mirror just in case. The people that do this must know because it does make quite a bang, but never has anyone stopped to leave their details or money........ >:( >:( Guess I have fully replaced 3 and repaired 3 or 4 more, all migs of differing flavours, from 4 pot to 6, over the last 16 years whe have been in this house.......... :D :D

Got me thinking that, moved in in 1999 and between swmbo and myself there has always been, at least, 1 Mig in the family....... ;D ;D

Unfortunately no, they were too far away by the time I got up and out. We have CCTV but didn't spend enough money to make out plates in the dark :-(

Thanks to an observant neighbour I now have a witness and plate  :y

How can I find the registered keeper? I guess the police won't be interested?

I had a similar incident, reported it to the police who looked up the owner and gave me his name and address. and I didn't even have a witness. This was about 10 years ago though.:y

Regardless of the seriousness of the collision, it still constitutes Failing to stop, failing to report and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in damage to property and/or persons...

All of which are frowned upon... take pics of the damage and all your and witness details down to the Police station tomorrow and if they won't play ball, ring your insurers and have them chase the TP insurers...

You can check if the TP vehicle is insured here...

http://www.askmid.com/

If it is showing as insured, then your insurers should be able to chase TP insurers on your behalf... shouldn't cost you a penny. If they won't help, at least find out who insures the other car and approach them directly... most have a point of contact for such incidents, and in my experience are pretty swift at sorting you out once liability is established  :y

once you have checked insurance(it will give you the make of vehicle)you can go here  https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/  and check if taxed and mot'd :y

Good point, and if you do both before going to the Police station, it will save them a bit of time... if not taxed/sorned/motd then they might be more interested, but giving them as much info as you can saves them time, meaning if summat needs dealing with, they can get to it sooner. This is good for everyone except for the naughty people ;)

Similar thing happened to mine while it was parked across road from our house.Happened through the day whilst I was at work[I walk there].In my case the mirror had been knocked forward and whilst the mirror glass and metal housing had survived the black plastic mirror frame[don't know its proper name, but it's the part you can see in your pictures]was broken and of the body coloured mirror back there was no sign, not even any bits of it!Still haven't found one in any local breakers to replace them and I'm not paying new prices for them!!

Looking good now, Police off to have a word about 'failing to stop' and his insurer seemed very helpful on the phone  :y

Nice one :y

Don't accept any nonsense from insurers... the value of your car is irrelevant, mirror should be repaired/replaced with no arguments  :y

Dacia Sandero eh ??? Stemo in disguise... ;D

Well if you eventually prove that it was his vehicle (whether he was driving it or not he would know of any damage/scratching to his car) then he's just Officially dropped himself in the brown smelly stuff by denying any knowledge! I hope you get a good result & he gets his just deserts (if culpable) :y

Of course, I suppose his wife could have been driving the car that day.

Women do like their little accidents. ;) :D

Quite possibly M'Lud! But he would have to be aware of any damage however slight as Mr Plod has apparently been round to his gaff to enquire about the Failure to Stop :-\
I vote to hang the miscreant anyway, as even if he's innocent then Steve can sleep easier knowing someone has paid! :D ;)
