Title: The price of tyres.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 24 January 2015, 17:16:57
The professionals at Kwik fit  ::) ::) will supply and fit 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy2 235/45/17 for £208.

That's £104 per tyre  for the 'thickies' amongst you. ;)

However, 'the boys to trust' are currently offering  'cashback' on Goodyear tyres. £10 a corner in this instance.

So £94 supplied fitted and balanced then.

The thing is this......should I allow these neanderthal knuckledraggers anywhere near my car, regardless of cost?

Are they competent?  I mean, they couldn't figure out how to undo the sump plug on my old ex-plod Omega. :-\

Steer well clear at any price  :(

Its only a small saving and the pain of their incompetance will be remembered long after the savings have been spent :'(

Even if they write your omega off, they could cover the cost with a few vouchers for free mot's and the like.

My two pen'worth for what it is worth won't be well liked by the populists.

Kwik Fit can't be that bad a company or it would have gone out of business. Given the number of staff they have , it is conceivable that at least one of our forum members works for them. How is your comment and that of others going to make them feel?  Are they bad fitters? Are they all bad fitters? I doubt it.

A better question to ask is what are you afraid they won't do to your standard? For me that would be torqueing the wheel nuts using a torque wrench and not an air gun. I take mine with me and say "I will tighten my wheel nuts if you don't mind". Most just say OK, one place said what torque do you use? That is the same as our guns! I will still use my torque wrench thanks was my answer.

If it is how they balance the wheels or actually fit the tyres then ask around. I used to use an independent garage in UK for tyres. They were very good.

My main concern is that most of the work seems to be carried out by unsupervised 'kids'

I expect this is to keep the wage bill as low as possible.

I have used Kwik fit about half a dozen times in the last few years. They seem to get it right about 50% of the time. As for the other 50% .....well... :-X

They seem to have very limited product knowledge.

I find their level of training and pride to be too low in the times I've used them (forced to for company car when ford owned them)

TBH, the same goes for all the nationals, including Halfords autocentre who had to change the name from National due to image.

As a matter of interest what torque figure should be used to tighten wheel nuts?

They will be fine for a Daewoo. ::) ::) ::) :D

If a wheel went missing it would be hard to tell the difference in the handling. :)
