Hi,
I know for some, colour changing the dash of the Omega is seen as.. Well.. Gay.... But the orange dash illumination has got to be one of the worst colours choices to choose.
I am slowly converting my dash illumination to white using, where I can, 3mm flat top white LED's (Gives a better coverage area).
So far, I've done the switches but the 3 problem area's I've found are the climate controls, the info display (GID) and the speedo.
I noticed while I was replacing the stereo and being curious, disassembled the climate control to find an orange filter over the display. Removing it, it glowed in the VFU green.

After realising that there must be enough light from the other colours of the spectrum in the green light to allow it to be filtered to orange, I wondered if I could use a filter to change it to white and....

Not quite the same white but so close..
The switch LED's in the climate control will be next.
As I've had to replace the stereo, I will be replacing the GID with a colour LCD either hooked up to an Android on a stick, Raspberry PI or a mini PC.
The speedo, I'm thinking of using a Vectra one as they don't have the built in orange filter but the one I got off ebay doesn't have the front fog lamp reminder.
Carl,
P.S. What's the best site for embedding pictures? Tried Google and dropbox..

Orange used probably along the same line of thinking as with Audi, who use red. Red/orange 'blends' into the background, and isn't distracting in your peripheral vision. Also, contrary to popular belief regarding Spanish fighting bulls, red is actually relaxing colour. So that's the reason oranges and / or reds are used.
I, for one, am very interested in changing the colour of the dash with LEDs, so will follow your work with interest :)
Without telling you your job, I'd be getting them weathered buttons replaced as they're in danger of spoiling a smart, professional looking job, with the LEDs, the screen and the carbon film :)
Be aware Vectra speedos have digital odometers, no idea what this will affect/change.
I always use Photobucket, personally. :y

They are one of the things that really bug me. I do look on ebay now and then to see if any come up but they always seam to be just as tatty or the pictures never clear enough. :(

Fairly sure an OOFer can help with them - as you've already become familiar with that CC panel, you'd know that the buttons are actually easy enough to change once you've got that panel out. Um, let me have a nosey around, I might have some, still for you. Be a day or two as no idea when I'm near my 'parts bin' again :y
Failing that, my next scrapyard visit and a screwdriver will make them fall into my hand :D

Not a fan of changes to dash lighting personally, but that doesn't look as hideous as I thought it might from the description...
Which is a compliment :y
