Title: My MV6 is booked in for......
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 28 January 2015, 18:45:19
....... new rear tyres.

I know from past experience that I'm taking a chance by choosing Kwik fit. They are charging £94 a corner all in.

I shall draw their attention to the rotation arrows and I will also check that both tyres are the correct brand and size. Goodyear 235/45/17.

As for the correct tyre pressure, I'm guessing this is beyond their remit. I'll inflate them correctly when I get home.

Did somebody say (TB,I think) that I should aim for around 80 lb ft of torque for the wheel nuts?. I'm guessing their answer will be something along the lines of ' it's good and tight, mister' :D

Didn't we have this discussion a few days ago? :-[

Are you taking your own torque wrench?

Your admiration for Kwik Fit has made me see the light, Mr Varche. ;)

The only torque wrench I own is one of the old 'bending bar' types. Not sure how accurate one of these is. :-\

They lock you away in the waiting area and scowl if you venture anywhere near the work area. Health and safety, you see. Can't have nosey, complaining, tight-arsed customers upsetting the fitters. ;D

When I had tyres fitted to the front of my Merc last week, the tyre fitter couldn't undo the locking wheel nuts ...... it was too tight for him.  ??? I'd fitted them  :-[ :-[
It's a good job I managed it for him  ;D ;D ;D

I eat tons of them, am I Superman?

I often wear my pants outside, but that may be due to other reasons.

.......my local Kwik Fit offers nothing other than "fu*k you" looks. The place is run for the benefit of the manager and staff, rather than the customers. There is absolutely no chance I'll be offered a slice of victoria sponge. :-\

I have nought against them. They are just not suited to me.  I think they are easy to wreck by overdriving them, unless 50% of them just happen to be faulty (GY agreed on the 2 I sent back, so I got a partial refund voucher)

:)

Clumsy on tarmac, relatively poor off-road.

So too compromised in all respects.

You'd have to really be a true Vauxhall fanatic to love one.
