Title: Are old Astras and Corsas as tough as old Omegas?
Post by: terry paget on 31 January 2015, 12:31:57
My daughter in law owns a Rover Streetwise which is unwell. Should it die I have offered her an Omega, she says she would like something smaller. Are 12 year old Astras and Corsas worth considering?

I think both would be suitable , both cheap spares and easy to maintain . A lot get abused for there reliability so i would only buy with suitable service history ect . I had an astra diesel estate and it was ultra reliable . My daughter had an 03 plate corsa 1.0 and it never missed a beat in 6 yrs  :y

An Astra-G is reasonably reliable, but prone to more body rust than the Streetwise*.  Also, the equilivant sized engine will feel sluggish an lethargic compared to the K series. But plenty to choose from, so you can be picky.

Finding a well loved Corsa from that era may start to get challenging now.

* I'm having to base my experience on a 25, as never owned or done any work on a Streetwise.

Or an early Astra-H you may be able to pick up cheap enough. Let done by a poor interior build quality (like small Rovers from the era of the streetwise).  Feels noticibly smaller than Astra-G.
