Crikey, not seen fog like this for quite a while! Visibility is literally nil in parts and it seems like every suicidal maniac in town is out on the roads tonight (without fog lights on!!!) :D ;D

Come on we know fog lights should only be used when theres no fog as it looks cool. :y

Worse inland, I had to drive to Billingham and back tonight, normally swmbo takes and I collect, but I got both runs today because of the weather........... ::)

Was fun last nite.....went to see Peter Kay in Manchester and coming back on the m62 was rather scary....thick fog and the usual t1ts in BMW and Audis driving like idiots..... :D

No fog here an still plonkers driving with front an rear fogs on :( Police force were out hiding round a corner with mobile speed cameras in a 40 zone ... plonkers overtook me an all got caught ;D ;D

Because it was bad and difficult to see the road, I tried a number of different lighting combinations and struggle to see any advantage in the fogs, you certainly cannot turn off low beam, as the fogs only light up about a foot or so, and high beam made visibility worse. I cannot help thinking the fogs are fitted to look nice...... :-\ :-\

Errrrr....the fogs are so that people can see you, not so that you can see through the fog? I've never even understood why they are fitted.

Reading that through, Mike, it does state that front fogs are supposed to help you see forwards, but I've always put them on (in really thick fog) to let others see me.

Yes, but you would have your headlights on anyway, I tried without and could not see enough. Your link goes on to say, as I have thought, they old fashioned yellow fog lamps, that we used to fit, well I did anyway........... :y :y

So, what is a good fog lamp? A good fog lamp produces a wide, bar-shaped beam of light with a sharp horizontal cutoff (dark above, bright below) at the top of the beam, and minimal upward light above the cutoff. Almost all factory-installed or dealer-optional fog lamps, and a great many aftermarket units, are essentially useless for any purpose, especially for extremely demanding poor-weather driving. Many of them are too small to produce enough light to make a difference, produce beam patterns too narrow to help, lack a sufficiently-sharp cutoff, and throw too much glare light into the eyes of other drivers, no matter how they're aimed.
