So what is your most dissapointing car you have bought.
Mine is my 2002 bmw 525i sport, it certainly looks the part but for an exegutive car, you would think it would be spacious but your wrong!!!!
It is tiny! I have an 8 year old son and he cant even fit in the back comfortably. Saying that, i drove down south the other day and me and the family could not get comfortable, they are so uncomfy.
Another problem is its gearbox(Automatic), it changes gear like nothing i have ever seen.
Everyone says that they are really good, well i am saying that there far from good but they are not bad, they are quiet, fast and looks superb :y
The Omega is just so much better.
So whats your most dissapointing car?
-
I've had some sheads but the worse... by far...
Fiat Uno Diesel...
Brown.. with a digi dash retro fitted.
It was horried
-
i don't think i have had one yet......
the one i would hate to be a disappointment would be the car i have always wanted, a Porsche 911, i have yearned after one for as long as i can remember, and i hope that it lives up to that expectation otherwise it will be the biggest disappointment of my life

a ford sierra 4x4,hated it from the day i got it

yes danny before you ask, you can have the 525i for £500
awww cheers!!
seriously its a shame they're so cramped!
i've only had 3 cars, my first being a 1.0 corsa C which had 71k on it at 4 years old, and was feeling like 171k!! they're not the smallest of small cars and a 1.0 3 cyl engine is seriously way too small, so that would be my most disappointing car, especially as it had no toys, AT ALL (not even central locking :() after that was my 2.0 omega, which was fantastic, then the elite i have now which is also fantastic, but i need it gone cos my thousands of short journeys are killing it one way or another :(

If you have ever been in the back of a vauxhall astra coupe, it's not far off that! :o Awefull
-
a ford sierra 4x4,hated it from the day i got it
i have always wanted the cosworth sierra, i hope thats not dissapoiting aswell :o
-
a mate of mine from work (who spent a lot of time slagging my car off, purely in a jesting manner) asked me for a lift to manchester to go buy a mondeo (dirt cheap) and even he was shocked at how roomy my car was
people just have no idea about the quality and amount of car you get with omegas til they sit in one!
-
For me it's the Citroen AX the biggest pile of pooh I have ever had the unfortuate displeasure of both owning and driving.
Followed closely by my 1984 VW Polo,
and in third place in my sh1t parade is the Mk3 Escort was rustier than a rusty thing when it went and smoked 50 fags a day!
4th place goes to my Mk1 Ford Mondeo Ghia, handled well but went through wishbones quicker than i change my pants!
5th place goes to yet another Ford the 1987 Granny Scorpio 2.9 lovely to drive but had a hole in the fuel tank (not literaly)
6th Rover 820Si 1996 had less torque than an elastic band, rest of the car was ok though.
7th Yet another Ford a purchase from e-bay a Scorpio Cosworth, stunning car to drive but butt ugly, was fast and quiet but far too many electrical gremlins.

There have been a few!! Hated my 94 astra. But it was free and went well, just hated the thing! Uncomfortable and in that stupid purple thats logged as 'blue' on the paperwork!
A citroen XM that was haunted and used to start itself, wipers on and off as they liked same with windows. No lights then lights on in day!! Was quite funny to think about now... but not at the time ::)

My 2nd car
A Chrysler Alpine 1400. 20,000 miles on the clock, driven by an old man, out company secretary from where I worked.
Poor on fuel, 84mph top speed, by 32,000 miles it had burnt out a battery, alternator and starter motor.
Pile of poo, but was a chep car for me at the time

Not sure if I am that disappointed but I drove an MGZT last week. I was looking forward to the comfort of the soft leather seats and the powerful engine.
Unfortunately, the seats were the best part of the car. The engine was particularly gutless and the whole thing was incredibly badly put together.
I had contemplated getting one of these, albeit in Rover 75 guise, a few years ago. Looks like I had a lucky escape. :-/

Had one of them as a 'works' car when they were new..... Loads of fun and amusement for the under 12's, despite all the kit in the boot.... But perhaps because of it.... ;)
-
I thought I was reading it wrong until your post, Golfbuddy..the most disappointing car, not the worst?
Most disappointing was an 07 reg Astra (what they on now? Astra H?). Had an S reg 2.0 Di Estate that was unbelievable - comfy, handled well, economical, never let me down. The new Astra? Uncomfortable, terrible ride, crap on fuel and lousy at accelerating. Shattered my illusion of "progress"..
Yes, i'm slamming a Vx...at least with a 1.0 Corsa, you knew it would't accelerate, but I liked the noise from the 3-pot...
Most surprising one was a Cav 2.0 CDi (8v) - the works hack. 250k on the clock. Still posted my fasted time ever from home to Ellesmere Port, stuck to the road like glue and still returned 39mpg...god knows how! 3rd gear in that was a revelation - 30 to 90-odd mph - great for slip roads! Best start a new thread...
-
oh yea, also the vauxhall signum, i didnt like the interior, i called it 'plastic fantastic,' i never owned one but been a passenger. Didnt like the drive comfort or the engine noise ever :-/ :y

Loving the thought of H21 trying to make a rapid exit from a Metro and look remotely professional! ;D ;D
One of the most disappointing cars I have driven is outside right now.
A Toyota Avensis D4-D.
Oh dear god who thought this was a good car??
Noisy and harsh diesel with an embaressing lack of torque.
Interior is cheapo and plasticky with a sereo that looks like it came out of the 1989 parts bin!
I can't even put it down to being a one off, this is the second one I have driven recently and they are both woeful.
At least I get to hand it back tomorrow :)

The Omega is just so much better.

Sorry chap but I couldn't disagree more. We had a 530i m-sport (2003) before the RR. I'm 6ft and would fit in the back with no problems, very comfortable front and rear. The tiptronic box was sublime in it's ability to change gears with nothing more than a change in engine tone (which was lovely). Personally, I can't speak highly enough for it.
Biggest dissapointment I've had was a Toyota Hilux Surf. 2.4TD, 2 tonnes, 84bhp and 12mpg. I kept it for 6 weeks before getting sick of it.
...though thats 3 weeks longer than the MV6 lasted :-/
-
My mate had a Jag XJR that I always admired, I recently had a chance to buy one and went round looking at quite a few.
Seats too short (under the thigh), boot too small, handbrake in the way of your leg, steering a bit vague, dash very boring I could go on, but ultimately I bought the Mig that I have now.
What a huge let down, I'd wanted (drooled over the idea of) one of those since the day they first cam out on the "M" plate.
-
The wife had a Jag XJS for a while - beautiful car on the dual carriageways and motorways, but just no use in town - so it went [smiley=cry.gif]

Bought a Daimler Double Six really comfortable but disappointingly slow. Sold my house in 1976 for a massive profit and bought a Maserati 3500 GT it was great until the water pump failed on the M6. Four weeks for a replacement from Italy and then had to sell the car to pay for the repairs and finally a Fiat 126. I could never get it started. When I finally did manage to start it I get caught for speeding. I am sure those things never went above 30mph. Must have been going downhill when they copped me. To add insult to injury it was stolen on the same day. The police caught the thieves who had crashed it into a wall but said it wasn't worth prosecuting as they knew the lads had no money to pay a fine. They also advised me that if I took them to court they would just come out with slapped legs again!

So you've had a lot of them then ;D
Shame about the maserati 3500 gt, love them cars, beautiful looking aswell :y
-
I think I have had around ninety different cars. Most of them sheds but there have been a few exceptions. My biggest regret though is the ones that got away. You know the ones. You go into a showroom. See a fabulous E Type or Pagoda Mercedes but then let your head rule your heart and come out with a new Escort/Astra instead for the same money.

looks like no one ever drive 72 cadillac eldorado

I had to use one about 6 years ago as a hire car - I couldn't use top gear as the gear lever stuck in my leg. >:(
-
VW Polo that was knackered when I got it. Needed a car that would last a month and gave a car dealer friend £25 for it. On the way home the N/S door mirror fell off and scattered a load of pedestrians. I could tell how fast I was going by watching the road through the holes in the floor. It threw a rod after three weeks of knocking.
-
Had the chance to drive the bosses' Rover 2600S (this is about 20 years back..).
Really looking forward to it but the thing was like a truck.
Hope the 3500 version was a bit more nimble.
-
A Datsun Cherry 1980. Total crap ,broke down every week. I bought it because i wanted a reliable japanese car. >:(
-
I did a deal to sell my Alpine and buy my Chevette, was the Kirkby Central Demo Car done in the Vauxhaull DTV Colours. But I had to wait a few days for it.
So they lent me a Morris Marina 1300, car, engine and brakes were fine for what it was, anyway, over the weekend it pi$$ed it down. Went went gung ho down this hill into a puddle (Water splash time - like you do as a teen ager) went beck up the hill, got to a band and the flipping brakes failed, thought it was just the fact they were wet. but 2 days when I took the car back they were still stuffed.
-
I have driven a lot
Bad cars
Ford Orion and same era Escort, terrible gear boxes and indicators.
Ford Abysmal van Absolutely terrible, (one Escrot TG called abysmal)
Ford Fiesta - I can't actually fit in it
1.8 carb Carlton SLOW - some bloke moaned wrong colour - I said stuff the colour - wrong engine.
Sierra 1.6 gutless for a 1600
Cavalier 1.6D painfuly slow
Astra 1.2 crude engine, not nice on a 200 mile swap
Horizon auto - just horrid.
Lots of these are either good cars with crap engines or in Fords case just some crap cars.
To ride in - how about a Morris Minor- shocking inside
-

So, did that help to have any influence on your present address? :y

a ford sierra 4x4,hated it from the day i got it
Yeah same here...and thats back when i loved my serria"s... :-?
Handled like a brick and wasnt overly quick...2.9i :o
Did sound the dog nuts though with a custom exhaust.
-
It didn't make me want to move at the time but the longer I lived in England (46 years) the more I wanted to leave. I did wait until the kids were old enough and settled then sold up and left ASAP.
-
Vauxhall Chevette was the most dissapointing car for me :-[.What a load of pooh and kept breaking down. Also the gearbox was awful.
-
probably my omega, until i found oof and discovered that everyone else had the same list of irritating faults and that most of them were easy to fix. :)
-
Cheating a bit - didn't actually buy it.
I tried out an Audi 100 1.8 - must have been about 1981. It was when "econolights" were fashionable - you may remember - a light came on on the dashboard to tell you when to change gear.
I took the car on the motorway - through the gears, reasonable speed, then someone pulled out in front of me without signalling (this was in Holland - they all drive like that). Nowhere to go as there was something coming up fast behind me. So I floored it, and absolutely sod all happened. Down to 4th, floored it again, still nothing. Just escaped by going down to third, but that was the scariest moment I've ever had on a motorway, and, since that day, I've never even considered buying any sort of Audi.
Turns out that, in the interests of economy, 4th and 5th gear were both overdrive ratios. I was just a little angry with the Audi dealer when I got back. Perhaps that was just the car for the "bauern" of Bavaria, or even the "Hollandse boeren" when driving in clogs, but in my opinion, that bloody car should never have been allowed on the road >:(
On that occasion, I also tried out a 2 year old BMW 528i (Spartan interior and uncomfortable in the extreme) and a Rover 3500 (like driving a very comfortable tank) before settling for a Granada 2.8i GLS.
You can see why I like my Elite! :)

Hi
What engine did the Astra have ? I have just bought a 1.8 with autobox and had for a couple of hours on test drive and ig goes like a rocket, especially if you hit that sport button.
Just curious
Mike

an old audi 80 ls it kept on breaking down every week, so bad that i took it down to the scrappy with a piece of string controlling the accelerator and dumped it there !! :D

It was a 1.6 twinport, manual...

Two worst cars I have had are:
1. Rover SD1 2300. Very comfortable but very,very unreliable.
2. Peugot 205 1.9GTi. Fast and handled well, but did nothing but spend money on it. If it could go wrong it did!
:( :(
-
the capri 280 my wife bought me for my 30th birthday, as "a bit of fun" My then current sennie kicked it's arse in EVERY department, quicker, better handling, and more economical... (not to mention more comfortable and practical all round.. )
