Venture far out of Moscow in the winter and you are probably going to need it. River capability very useful once you get north of Moscow or East of the Ural mountains as many wooden bridges over rivers have collapsed, hence 25% of farmland is inaccessible for farming!

Life in a typical small industrial town well outside of Moscow. Virtually all of industry has gone bankrupt. Pictures 23 and 24 are interesting as this bridge is their only transport link to the outside world! When funds were provided to repair it by the time all the officials in the chain have had their 'graft' to stamp and sign for it to be repaired, there were no funds left to repair. That is how the ex-Communist system works, and getting your 'graft' starts right at the top! This is why there is very little spending of infrastructure once you get outside of Moscow and the other large Eastern cities.
