Title: Are you a bit of an animal?
Post by: Webby the Bear on 13 February 2015, 23:29:15
I am usually quite good. But yesterday saw the worst case of personal ham-fistedness I've ever produced  ;D

Old ford fiesta... Webbs, pop two new headlight bulbs in that. No worries says I.

Broke the clips on the grill, broke the securing tabs on the side of the n/s headlight and to top it off I ran the battery flat  ;D

So how hamfisted are you?  ;D

If Thursday obviously an early bird, if today understandable as Friday 13th! :o :o :o

If in doubt give it a clout, only works some of the time! :o :o :o

My advice if things aren't going well is to take a 10 minute break as in that time you will think of new better approaches to solve the problem. It is very easy to stay too close to a problem, looking to press on and make bad, regretful, under stress decisions where that 10 minutes would have given a much better outcome. This is my voice of experience as I've been there and done that and I'm always looking to do things better. :-[ :-[ :-[

This is also why Google and other creative companies with very creative employees produce coffee break playgrounds as 10 minutes of chilling out while mulling over a problem in the background, gives a quicker better solution. Very often sleeping on a problem gives many new ideas on how to solve it. Experience and using and understanding how your brain thinks and works will make you significant better. :y :y :y

I don't have a lot of luck with clips. My excuse is that the plastic is brittle after 12 years in the baking sun. It might also be the build quality as I notice similar other vehicles have the same problem.

Rods, absolutely couldn't agree more! Go away, have a coffee, come back with a new approach. Also to add to that, if you're trying to get at a bolt and you're getting nowhere, don't keep getting beat up. Try a different approach  :y

The amount of times I've spent an age tyring to get at a fixing with the tools I have then walk away, grab some dinner and come back and 'PING'.

The saying "Two heads are better than one" is usually correct.  You can have two heads! (no dirty jokes).  Just wander off and do something else, and when you get back you will have a completely different perspective.

You will find this on occasion young bear and Fords are one of the worst, they don't 'age' well.....for god sake don't touch any engine looms on them lol

But this time of year does not help as plastics are more brittle

Yeah agreed, Mark...... I suppose the amount of heat cycles they go through makes them that brittle  :-\
