Hi, guys yet another issue with my 3.0l. It won't start but turns over chucking out loads of bluish smoke. Anyone got any ideas other than scrap it?
-
Blue smoke usually means oil have you been working on it i:e plugs out
-
Sorry, but I don't do working on it ;D It has just started to do this and I just wondered what is possibly causing it and wether it is past it's sell by date.
-
Ok I ask that because they are prone to get oil in plug wells and if you changed plugs then some would find its way in from there. was it running ok last time used?
-
Blueish smoke would certainly appear to mean oil ingress which as far as I know points to valve stem oil seals or HG but from other posts on here these sem to be pretty robust.Any codes re-non start?
-
If suddenly not starting, crank sensor would be a good place to look, assuming it has fuel in it of course...
Only fit a genuine sensor, bought from a genuine Vauxhall dealer, in person. :y

Managed to look at the elite today and the oil is the colour of caramel chocolate. The coolant has been disappearing lately so I can only assume its head gasket. Has anyone got an rough idea as to the cost of doing the job on the rare occasion they go please as I suspect it is terminal which is a bit of pain as only had a new alternator fitted a month ago. Cheers

What colour is the coolant?
-
Sorry, didn't look at that will try tomorrow.Might be significant ,I don't know, but it used over heat quite a bit after oil cooler failure blocked the radiator. I wonder if that has compromised the head gasket.
-
Where are you looking at the oil colour? On the dip stick, or filler cap?
If you have brown Mayo on the dip stick that's most likely HG as you suspect.
Sometimes people see the often quite "normal" Mayo on the filler cap and assume the worst. Especially in conjunction with coolant leak.
Any codes via paper clip test, other than 31..?

It's on the dipstick and looks like coolant header tank is empty

Hg then, as you say. :y
Have a word with one of the guys on here. Darth loo knee or Marks Dtm they might be prepared to fix it, for a more sensible price too. :y

Cheers for the input but I think the time has come for the elite to move on to the next plane. As well as the head gasket it needs cambelt change, two new tyres and has rust on all four doors and the rear arches so not cost effective to repair unfortunately. Will miss it to be honest but not the constant drain on my pocket

You know it makes sense.
