Just got back from Ben Nevis/Fort William - we got to 3500ft just 900ft short of summit but collective decision of our party of 8 (over 55s) was to return because of heavy rain, hail and mist.
Vauxhall sponsor the 4 peaks challenge but not a hope of me doing this. Ben Nevis is massively hard work and I was not expecting so many boulders and so little established path - web sites are a bit misleading. The weather was pretty bad for much of the 5 days we were up there but fantastic scenery. Thighs and knees very stressed!! Never thought I would get down at one point but I did - inspired by Ben Nevis Inn.
We hired 2 brand new Passat diesel estates from Glasgow - weird ignition system and handbrake (there isn't one - it is just a button marked P which disnegages when you drive off )

It is never a mistake to turn back - esp on a hill like the Ben. Having been winter climbing there I would always treat it with masses of respect especially in poor weather.
Bet the pub was welcome when you got down.. :)

Glad you turned back!
We camped at the base of Ben Nevis a few years back in horendous weather and the mountain rescue helicopter brought several bodies off over night!
Not an environment to take chances in!
