Spare wheel of soon to be baked bean cans elite never been out of boot and still has 'brand new' tyre on. Question is is it still usable or not?
-
Forgot to say PFL 1997 car
-
I would. :)
All my old cars were run on remoulds when I was a lad.
-
Strange you should say that!I too always used remoulds when I was younger.Still have Alloy wheel for a Senator B in the shed with a damn good tyre on it.Don't know how safe that'd be mind.

Didn't we all, they were cheaper........ ;) Thinking about it, are remoulds still available?
-
Colway remoulds were always my favoured choice.whether remoulds are still available I don't know not been offered the option of any for years now.
-
You can still get hold of remoulds but after having bad experience with them trying to kill me I wouldn't ever consider using them again, good tread or not...
I would use the spare if the side walls wasn't cracked and it was still holding air...

As an emergency use spare, as long as no signs of cracking, it will probably be OK. But be wary, as its way beyond its life that the tyre manufacturer says (5 years from manufacture). Therefore, I certainly wouldn't use it regularly (plus it will likely have a low speed rating)

Grip in the wet will probably be on a par with a dog on wet lino - entertaining but likely to end in something getting broken.

I'd still happily, though cautiously) use the spare in my 1998 MV6 if I had a puncture.

Our Corsa is still on it's original rears from 2003. :D
No mention of age come MOT time.

I would agree with all of that. It's going to be far better than the wornout, rotten tyres on rusty wheels that I regularly drag out from under cars.
Consider it as a temporary fix and, as it is almost certainly a different size to the fitted wheels/tyres, equivalent to a space-saver with all that entails.

Hence the bloody great yellow sticker with 50mph stuck to the outside face ::)
Besides, at least the Omega has a spare... :-X

There no doubt will come a time when MOT includes age of tyres!

In the near future,I imagine.

I am not going to use it as car going for scrap but it is full size albeit on a steel rim. It looks like a brand new tyre and I can't see any cracks. It has always lived in the boot so no exposure to uv light. Just wondered if it would be usable.

Yes!
A set of 4 would be useful to anyone who needs to get their alloys refurbished (or wants to fit winter tyres)
certainly don't send it for scrap.
-
The alloys are in reasonable condition actually but I don't have the facilities to break the car so all will have to go together :-\

The earlier Omegas lack the sticker. Probably 'elf and safety didn't make it to parts of Germany before 2000 ;D

Possibly, but 15" was a factory wheel size up until 2000 :y
