Title: Replacing main battery
Post by: DrAndyB on 13 March 2015, 22:32:53
Looks like need to treat her to new main battery.

What is the recommended process for removal and fitting ?

I have a MFL 2.5V6 CDX on a V plate.  Looks like there is a 72Ah one same dimensions  :y

Am I correct that process is:

I read somewhere about needing to reset key immobiliser and windows ???? Or is this not necessary ?

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

You will need to reset one touch window operaton plus sunroof [if fitted].  You will also need radio code.

Ahh, I read somewhere to let things discharge to avoid Airbag light coming on ?  Unless that is on the Face lift only and so not needed on my MFL so culpa when all done ! ?

....

Am I correct that process is:

  • Turn ignition off and remove key
  • disconnect negative within 15 sec
  • then disconnect positive and make cuppa
  • remove old and locate new battery connecting positive terminal first then negative
  • enter radio code and start car as normal

Correct on all counts. You can make life a bit easier by slackening the -ve battery terminal off before you start  ;)

Following procedure will not cause Airbag light to come on following new battery reconnection ?

You'll be OK just swapping the battery.

You'll only have problems if you have any of the airbag system disconnected and turn the ignition on (with the battery still connected) It'd need re-setting even if you fix the fault or reconnect it all

Never re-set a sunroof myself so don't know on that bit,but windows easy.Just press and hold each window switch to the closed position and after a second or two you should here a faint "click"and that's that particular window sorted.

I would be interested in the Gm part number and size of battery you have used ? (and how I can get one for that Price  :y)

I am looking for a GM one for mine ideally same physical size (175x175x270(ish)).

Original one is a 66Ah, but have found reference to a GM 72AH one PT Num: 19023517.  Other than that, looks like its a GM 70Ah one part num: 9201470 but was more than your £53 +vat (£25 more  :-[)

I hope for your sake that the retaining bolt doesnt shear off like mine did. needed to drill out and replace with a nut and bolt.

:o  I shall start to soak bolt now then.  Otherwise, I maybe seeing if I can get another 15 years out of the battery  ;D ;D

Cheers for heads up  ;)
