I've applied for this, filled in the forms and enclosed a printed off copy of my tax return.Council sent a letter back wanting more detail/proof so handed this in to them, now I get a further letter telling me that benefit has been suspended as since Maureen died[and any money she had coming in-pensions and DLA-stopped]I've now mysteriously got a further £1009 a week coming into the house over and above what I earn!!!I've phoned them about this asking where it's coming from and more importantly where it's getting paid to[so I can get my hands on it!]they can't tell me either of these things and a "supervisor"will have to look into it!I just seem to be fighting burocracy all the time and it must be said I seem to keep coming out on the losing side!

Get Three recent bank statements/wage slips/proof of any benefits your on/proof of any other income/Tax return/Proof of amount of rent you pay..And anything else you can think of that i have missed.
Put your coat on and go down to the housing/Council tax Benefit section And ask to speak to an Advisor In a private room about your claim. :y
Think that sounds about the best way to go :y

So sorry to hear the 'paperwork' side of the loss of a loved on is kicking it - it did in our family not so long ago, and have to say it's damn near-enough as bad as the loss itself. :'( All I can say is it will be over very soon. Can't add to any advice that's already been said, but as Churchill said ' when you are going through hell - keep going' All the best.

Well been to council offices today[yet more loss of work time=money earned]turns out the £1009 figure is one just plucked out of thin air.It seems it could have been any stupidly high number,as it's put in place to stop any possibility of benefit overpayment. Why can't they just explain such things?

Seemingly another example of bureaucracy gone mad with no concern of the situation a person is in. Another example of this Governments lack of understanding of people, in real life, whilst trying to make major changes in benefits, without any concern of the individual them self. I have no concern about changes in benefits to tighten down on fraudsters, however I have a massive concern about the way it is being done............... :( :(

If it's in thier favour it will be a £1009 over payment
If it's in y0urs it will end up being a typo error and end up being £10.09
