Title: Can I MOT before it's due?
Post by: SMD on 19 March 2015, 06:08:58
I'm guessing yes as I can't see a reason why not. I need to sell the Zafira, I tried to sell it last November/December but it was the wrong time of year I think. The MOT expires in May and the earliest date to test it and keep the expiry date is in mid April.

Should I wait a month or MOT it early? There is no pressing need to get rid of it immediately but sooner the better.   :-\

Up 30 days before the expiration date, and it can be pre-dated.  :y
Obviously if you chose to you can MOT your vehicle every 3 months if you wanted to.  :o

As above, you can MoT anytime you wish you don't have to wait for the actual expiry date...

I always put my car in for MoT a month early...

My Omega's MoT is actually due on 10th April but it passed last Friday (13th) so its kinda got a 13month MoT now...

If you MOT more than a month before its due, the MOT will only be valid for a year.

But you are perfectly entitled to do that :y

My MOT wasn,t due until Aug, but, due to it being a Cat C write off the insurance company insisted on a new MOT. I usually get mine done a month before it,s due in case of any dramas, (of which i,ve had one or two). :y

So if you MOT a month early and it fails, am I right in thinking that you cannot continue driving on the old MOT as it's proven to be unroadworthy?  :-\

Allowing for the driving to/from any prebooked test or related work, I would take that as a given Sir Tig seeing as how it's all on line now :-\

There could be a bit of leeway depending on how long it takes to get from the VOSA database to the DVLA one, but it would be naive to presume that the police don't have access to both...

The last I knew[not long ago] if a car has a current M.O.T and you take it for another one which it then fails then the current M.O.T remains in force and car can still be driven legally.Of course the law may have been changed on this in the last few months or so.
