Title: I'm confused.com ???????
Post by: Crazycarzowner on 21 March 2015, 17:54:54
The Skoda's demise was on Friday the 13th March with my insurance due to run out on the 18th of March which was the following Wednesday. I rang up my insurance company and kindly told them 'thanks but no thanks' for the renewal as the car was involved in a bump the previous Friday and was likely to be written off. The said 'fine we'll cancel the renewal' and confirmed this via email. Just out of curiosity today I logged on to Ask mid, which stated that the Skoda was insured????

Answers on a postcard please.......................?

Only for policies going on, for policies ending they have the 'end date' so it drops off more or less straight away.

That's right, Jason. All government websites are totally infallible.

Presumably the information is only as good as the insurance company providing it... ::)

True Al, I'm half expecting a substantial sum on my credit card on monday. I recon they haven't cancelled the policy, when I explicitly told them 3 times to do so.  >:( If that's the case, then the financial ombudsman will be 1st port of call.

When I first insured with direct line, my insurance wasn't showing on MID after three weeks. Each time I phoned them, they assured me the car was insured, so not to worry.
I got royally pissed off after a while and told them so, informing them that they were obliged to update the MID by law. They said they would ring the underwriters to see why they hadn't done it, and it was sorted the same afternoon.
So...two things I got from this.
1) sometimes these companies are acting as agents for larger companies and it's the larger company that has to do it.
2) it can obviously be done almost immediately, or at least by the end of the day when the system updates.
