Worth upgrading to Omega front calipers, definitely - tell you what - I'll actually take those old calipers off your hands free of charge. Also the engine isn't that good in them - probably best to replace it with a BMW 2.5 TD with an occasional low, rough idle and leakoff pipes that need doing. Again, same service - I'll take the V8 off your hands for free, won't even incur a disposal charge, or anything.

The Monaro I saw in Bellinger Grove a few years back had push rods, quite a novelty these days. I wonder if it has rotating valves?

Yes pushrod but all alloy block and heads  :y :y
Title: Re: Monaro

Yes pushrods, single cam and two valves per cylinder. ...which I must say, I initially thought was a bit basic.

BUT, when you consider the size and comparative weight of the LS engines, v the twin cam multi valve lumps, you realise how compact the LS lumps are. A comparatively narrow v angle, heads 3 inches wide, makes a very powerfull and compact engine.

Still a bit of a squeeze in an omega engine bay though. ::)

There rather enormous valves to! 50mm for intakes and 38mm for exhaust on the LS2

Remembering that the 5.7 LS1 is a Gen III and the 6.0 LS2 is a Gen IV so there are differences particularly in the heads. Both have 6 bolt cross bolted mains.  :y

Also having one, within the next year...unless Swmbo finds out in the meantime, then all my Omegas will be for sale in an estate sale R.I.P me :'(

Was offered one a few months ago, with only 25,000 on the clock. When I was younger and wealthier I would have snapped his arm off, but in these days of overcrowded roads, average speed cameras appearing everywhere, ANPR in police cars etc. I honestly don't see the point.
If you want to go fast these days, buy or build a trackday car, or move to Germany.

Oh yes. I was aware of the four vertical bolts, but not the two from the side. :y

Not always about the speed  ::) sound of the V8 and the thought of not having to change the timing belt every 4 years.  :P :y

You say potato, I say potaato ::) it's an early build from the position of the fuel filler, also gets a full size boot... Just don't reverse into anything at speed ie off a wet bend/roundabout :D

I've always preferred the VXR 6.0 styling, not sure why. The more aggressive bonnet and small rear spoiler really set it off, still one of the best cars I've sat in comfort wise.

The CV8 is nicely understated imho, kind of an Omega Coupe... Upgrade the brakes to Wortec or Ap then uprate the clutch, crank, pistons and cam them finally finish it off with a nice little super charger 8)

If preferred, there's very little from the vxr that won't bolt straight on. Afaik.

....provided the parts are available of course.

I've never been a fan of Monaro's or VXR8's but I have to admit that a black Monaro could grow on me!  As Al says kinda an understated Omega Coupe.   8)

Enjoy!  :y

It is the exact same size  :y and many parts are interchangeable I believe it is a more hard drive than the omega and suspension is tighter  :)

According to Mr Monkfish, there's plenty of ls2's punting out similar power with no issues. Rob was just unlucky. (Piston snapped over the gudgeon pin.)

....according to Mr Monkfish that is.
