Hello
Sadly my omega has gone to the crusher and after much deliberation and lack of money I bought a w reg 2000 Ford focus 2 litre ghia in black with 162000 miles and 6 months mot for a very silly price.
Anyway the car is perfect apart from when you go 60mph plus and put your foot down, the car shakes and the more you accelerate the worse it gets, but eases when you take your foot off but it is still there, the steering is a bit out but is fine below this speed.
Any ideas? I feel like it isn't tracking but something more serious.
thanks

Wishbones and/or a buckled wheel.
-
Check everything ,being a ford.......
-
Get the wheels balanced. :)
-
As already mentioned wheel balance or maybe a knackered driveshaft
-
Possible buckled wheel. My 2000 W reg a Focus was a tremendous servant to us, never failed to start and went for over 205,000 miles on original suspension all round. An excellent car, steering and gearbox were as tight as the day I bought it new. :'(

Its that common sense monster shaking you violently for buying a bloody Focus ;D

Small (esp the first versions). Gutless engines. Suspect handling. Poor braking capability (despite having Ford's "fart near the pedal and it'll lock up" system). Poor spec levels. Dull, over assisted steering.
Bloody awful cars.

You omitted a lousy seating position, uncomfortable seat, and that they're hideous inside and out. To me, it drives like a Cortina with knackered void bushes(which was always nearly every Cortina)
I've never liked the Focus either.
-
Had it balanced for £20 today and that didn't do it. found out it was the bushes on the wishbone and because they are riveted will require new wishbones £60 each side and two new tires!!!! :( :(
To be fair it does have a better spec to my omega with traction control, heated front windscreen, trip computer with mpg, all 4 electric windows, front fogs and CD autochanger and electric seats with lumbar :p
The steering is weighty as well and the 2.0l engine is very speedy probably because it isn't as heavy.
But it still dosen't feel as well put together nor is it as enjoyable to drive and is very very ugly. I could never love it.
One more thing it is too small not enough presence. even though it is the saloon version.

Comparing a Focus Ghia with a base Omega and then bitching about the spec is like eating a bowl of gravel and complainimng that it's a bit crunchy ???

Did you buy that Gold saloon from Ebay ? :-\

The biggest issue with older Fords in general is that they just seem to hit 10 years old and bits literally fall off.
Check the drive shafts to, grab them near the gearbox end and pull them about as I have seen a fair few where the drive shaft bearings have gone in the gearbox (I thought ford had moved away from this annoying trait with the demise of the Escort!)
