...of shitbox Zafiras, but the Battlebus has taken us up to the Lakes for the last week, and brought us back safely, without missing a beat, or complaining (too much) about going up and down all the passes. Used over 2 full tanks of diesel, and averaged just under 37mpg.
Needs a wash now. Though that'll be a job for next year (unless I sell it this year).

I was considering one of those , a lot on the used car market now ::)

Where would seven people want to go without luggage or shopping? I suppose you could get two carrier bags behind the back seat.

My R Class is the same ....... 6 people & a wash bag a piece, 4 passengers & plenty of luggage or 2 of us & more luggage space than you could ever want to take ;)

There you go, that's where you ducked up... ;D
If you'd bought the LWB one, you could carry five people and their luggage and it would still only cost £500 a year to tax ::)

Completely agree not many available with seats and space, had the same problem when looking round a few years ago and ended up with...........
A Grand Espace
Seven seats when you need them with plenty of space behind or cavernous with five seats only in.
Going to Scotland next week with five of us and luggage plus five bikes.......all in the boot.
I know the general forum views on Renaults but to be honest it has not been that bad on reliability, goes through suspension and tyres almost as fast as a mig!
But very smooth very quiet very comfortable and even fully loaded quite brisk 2.2 dci and 150bhp

Just the mention of the word Renault makes me shudder. :'(

Would your favourite the Frontera have done a better job? :)

I doubt it, even worse shitboxes

Did you manage to resolve the lack of performance?
-
It performs well between 2000 and 3300 rpm.
Below and above that it seems like it's labouring, and the power "surges" in and out.
With good fuel, it'll redline in the first 3 gears, though 2nd and 3rd especially it's not happy doing so.
-
I should add, no idea what's normal on these. My old L series Rover 400s pulled well all the way to 5k, and would easy redline in the first 3 gears

Then you've got your head in the sand. Moaning about Renault reliability whilst driving an omega.

tbh I had 2 of them a old shape 2.0 DTI auto which went like a bat out of hell...then a 1.9 cdti manual and that was dreadfully slow getting to 50....after that it went quite well :y
-
Had a 2.0dti hire car which wouldn't top a ton, and that was an '02 :-\

My 2.0 DTI I had went very well at a ton it was just cruising.... 8)

My experience of diseasals is limited to tractors and hired lorries & vans (7.5 ton tail lift, luton 3.5 ton? and various LWB high top VW & Citroen vans).
All of the vans seemed to have a similar sweet spot. They would run down to idle and up to the red line but if you want to make progress then there was no point in letting the revs stray out of the 2000 - 3300 band.
I had assumed that diesel engines in cars would be tuned to behave more like petrol engines :-\
-
A diesel lump is a diesel lump whether it's fitted to a generator or a fishing boat...
The only characteristic difference is down to gearing :y
-
and the turbo bolted onto it might have a little some thing to do with available power :y
-
and the ECU can play tunes with fueling, timing, boost pressure (especially if the turbo has variable vanes) and throttle response to mask the basic characteristics.
-
Equally, while I may not be a fan of people carriers and manual gearboxes, I have to admit, Mrs VXL's Alhambra 1.9 TDi 130 would leave her old 2.2DTi standing and out accelerate it at any speed. The chassis is a fair bit stiffer as well but FWD torque steer is something I've lived without for so long I'd almost forgot about it!
Seats with the side bolsters are a bit narrow though for my frame!

That depends on definition of bat out of hell. I'm sure mine is quite normal in its power band, but even here, its far from quick. Adequate maybe.

Blimey, no hope for the rest of us then ;D

Not tried in ages, but last time I did (it might have still been *really* bad back then), 95 downhill. And that was after some winding up to get it there.

It's a fair old pull for most vehicles up them passes so the bus did well. I often wonder if the car in front of me is going to make it. ;D

A family friend used to tow his caravan with an Alhambra and I must admit I was surprised at how well it pulled with the van on the back. :y

It is a LWB :P Mine is a six seater ..... slightly later cars are 7 ;) I specifically looked for the 6 as when set up for four people, there's a removable armrest between the rear passengers, the 7 seater has a 'half seat' between them.
In hindsight, the armrest is a PITA if you want to fold all the seats down ..... it gets in the way of the rear most (3rd row) seat squabs going flat so needs removing to do so.
