I wanted the name Emma for my daughter, not sure why it was just in my mind. swmbo wanted the name Louise hence her eventual double barrell name of Emma-Louise, now or surname begins with F, swmbo thinks about these things and decided her initials would read ELF so we decided to add a middle name, Katie, hence Emma-Louise Katie F####

If we had had a daughter I liked Eloise or Emma. Emma I just like the name, and Eloise from the The Strangler's song of the same name.

'Eloise',  written by Paul Ryan and sung by Barry Ryan was a hit in 1968, on the MGM label '45' No. 1442.  A song I particularly loved and bought at the time, which is still in my record collection.

We had a similar problem naming our two.....and its weird because when they arrive and you actually see them, any names you originally thought of dont seem right.

Eg . No 1 - Boy

We had some names in mind but, when we looked at him we thought 'looks like bloody trouble' so called him William (Will for short).....and its definately apt!

No 2 - Girl

Named her Katerine (kate for short), and shes a bugger (alcoholic) to!

Funnily, for us, the longer names work as you call them Will and Kate most (some!) of the time but, when thier naughty you revert to the long name.......and then they know they are in trouble  ;D ;D

So my advice, get some ideas and consider what it might be shortened to, what the initilials spell (we knew a Chris Rumble who was forever getting post address to Mr Crumble), is it a piss take name (i.e. any characters on Tv that may distract i.e. Vicky Pollard) and how it works with the surname (we know a Harris Pole.....poor little bugger, particularly at election time!)...........but dont be afraid to change it if it really does not suit them when they arrive!

We ran out of imagination for middle names so we called the eldest Harry David Robert and the youngest Samuel Robert David!
We liked Annabel for a girl. I like Arthur too.

Go for something old fashioned and boring.  If you give her an unusual name and that sort of thing goes out of fashion, she'll hate you for it.

You can't go wrong with the traditional names.  If she needs a nickname or wants to call herself something daft, that's up to her and her friends.  But please don't lumber her with something that's going to sound silly in 15 year's time.

We called our daughter Amy - absolutely safe and it can't be abbreviated to something we'd hate.   :)
