Title: Cataclean Liquid Science - wonder liquid or snake oil?
Post by: Bigron on 01 April 2015, 22:48:23
Has anyone had any experience of the above Cataclean treatment liquid? I had an email promoting it - £16.99 from Halfords - and it is reputed to clean the catalytic converters prior to the dreaded emissions test at MOT time......

Not sure if it's the same size etc and no idea if it works:

Yes Stev3e, that appears to be the same stuff, but an earlier version. Apparently it was re-branded Liquid Science, and "improved" in price!

Use it twice a year or so, I do believe it does something I find anyway in the way of a few more MPG, Smoother idle etc. Can't say if there's any difference to the emissions or not but I've heard good things that it does, Doesn't hurt to throw a bottle in a few weeks before the MOT.

Never paid more than £13.99 for a bottle though, Amazon is where I usually get a bottle from or ECP or even eBay depending where has the better price at the time.

Funny you should ask  ::) Mig failed MOT last Friday, on the dreaded emissions test.

Long story about the Cat's history, but knew it wasn't lamba's, etc, so decided to give it an italian tune up with some cataclean in before spending on a new one and bugger me it passed on Tuesday.

I'm not sure if it was the cataclean or the tune up or a combination but seemed to work for me and will use again (but probably not regularly)

Thank you. Once again OOF comes up trumps!
For the sake of completeness and in case it's of help to anyone else I'll give the link to the report that was sent to me...http://blog.warrantydirect.co.uk/2015/03/27/drivers-sleep-walking-into-mot-emissions-failures/#.VRxrgY6b0nh
From what you say, Mr.OmegaMan, it sounds like it's worth a try.
Thanks gents.

Customer of mine recently had a fail on emissions on a hyundai catz, quoted a cost of £650 for replacement cat from the dealer that failed it.
someone suggested a cataclean remedy which got it thru the test.. hence the new customer.

Thanks once again to all who replied to me: as a result I got a bottle from Halfords and put it in today. My MOT isn't due until November and by then it will need another treatment, but other running benefits are claimed for this wonder-elixir, too, so I await them eagerly!
