Title: Omega 2.5 TD Wanted
Post by: Scatmancraig on 03 July 2008, 19:23:18
Hi,

I'm fairly new to this site, and i'm after an Omega 2.5 TD.  Apparently i can't post in cars wanted till i have posted 50 times so i'm posting here!

Ideally i want the best car my money can buy, got £3k to spend, maybe a little more but it would have to be a really good car!  Really looking for an Elite or CDX so i get the toys.  People keep telling me to go for a later one with the Bose Stereo!  Can you get the 2.5TD with sat nav too?

Auto or manual, i don't really mind although if i had to choose i would quite like an auto but i keep hearing horror stories about the gearboxes failing on them!

Not bothered about having leather seats, but i would like working air-con as its the one toy i've done without for years and now i want it!!

So if anyone knows of a decent car that matches the above then please let me know!!  I'm in Lincolnshire but prepared to travel as long as its not ridiculously far away!

At the risk of being flayed alive, the V6 just doesn't appeal to me!!  The other reason for wanting a diesel is i work for a bus company and can get free fuel from work!!

Hi Craig, If you are thinking of spending that sort of money I reckon you would find a facelift Elite at a car dealers and you'd get a warranty as well!

The autobox issue won't be an issue because you'll want to fit an AR35 and put a GC chip in it so it performs like it should anyway!

I haven't got a problem buying from a dealer, already keeping an eye on autotrader.  Where else can i look which will give me wide coverage apart from ebay?

Think Autotrader is about the only place worth looking, eBay seems to have gone downhill lately.
A lot of taxi drivers buy the 2.5TD's (not sure if they still do with the age of them now) so if you spot the right one don't delay going to see it.

check th etrader magazine as well as online. alot of the ads in the mag dont go online and vice versa. and if checking on line dont put anything in the distance box. but you probably know all this already. good hunting tho.  :)

I have a T reg 2.5TD Elite going up for sale very soon, around 1/2 your stated budget.  All the std TD Elite toys, plus the Carin SatNav system.

Current issues:
3 of the 4 seat heaters have failed (cloth seat, not worth repairing, so I won't)
I think I have a fuel leak, but can't pinpoint where.

Yup. Sadly.

It was bought as a project. OK, it took longer than planned, but its living again, so time to go.

As most know, I have a soft spot for this car, but I'm looking for another summer project, so need the space.  I'll be sorry to see the back of it - I feel the Tractor and I (and many forum members who helped, or simply followed the saga online) have been through an awful lot together  :'(

Is the next project going to be such a PIA?

A bit fraught at times, but I will say the Tractor has been 'interesting' ;D

Warrentys generally are not worth the paper they written on, a facelift 2.5TD Elite, will be rare too.

I've seen a couple of facelift ones for sale, to be honest thats what i'd prefer.  Although i'd probably be quite happy with a CDX as long as it had air-con.

Were there many differences between the Elite & CDX on the facelift cars?
