Title: Nicola Sturgeon - a future PM?
Post by: Varche on 10 April 2015, 14:46:23
I have been following British politics and have to say (regardless of politics, parties etc) that I find NS quite charismatic. She is also good at fighting her corner.

It wouldn't take a giant leap for the SNP to rebadge itself as say the UKNP and field candidates in 2020 for her to be PM! Plenty of disaffected voters around in Britain (and Europe) that want a new party/direction.

Not saying it is right or saying anything about the parties views. Who would ever have seen Clegg and Co wielding the power they have 6 years ago!

Good between the sheets?

What is your opinion, Mr Varche? ;)

Seriously though, I think she could go a long way.

In 2010 Nick Clegg gave a good account of himself in the TV debate with Cameron and Brown, yet in power he has been about as much good as a chocolate teapot.  ::)

I suspect Nicola Sturgeon would turn out to be worse than Clegg, as her first interest would be looking after Scotland to the detriment of the rest of the UK.  >:(

Same could be said about a 'English' PM from a Scottish/Welsh point of view.

Not really...

Wales is only a Principality, whereas Scotland is a country  ::)

At least they have their own devolved assemblies, where as SMP's can work in a coalition to set ours. If Labour / SNP form a government this will create a constitutional crisis. I never been involved in any demonstrations, but I would over this, where it is profoundly unreasonable for Scotland to set their own tax rates, NHS rules etc, but not for them to also then set ours! >:( >:( >:(

Let not forget where Gordon McRuin took us economically, Millipede and Sturgeon between them would do a turbo version, to all of our detrements. It is like this non-dom situation, the majority are high networth individuals who pay a lot of taxes on their UK earnings, where they work in the city of London, but Labour class warrior's view of fairness is to reduce our tax-take from them, by them going and living abroad. So we either end up with less spent on public services or taxes have to go up for everybody else to replace them. One of the reasons France has been a basket case economically for the last 5 years with high and ever rising unemployment and a stagnant economy, has been their 75% tax rate. The high earning movers and shaker then go and live elsewhere, with London being a very popular destination. Getting on the wrong side of the income tax rate laffer curve is around 40%, which is why the current 45% tax rate raises more revenue than the 50% one did and the old 40% rate more than the current 45%!

Penal tax rates shoot everybody in the foot where they raise less tax than more moderate rates and you get a brain drain where well educated people with in demand skills go a live in other countries, especially the US, where they can have higher disposable incomes and better lifestyles.

If you mean she shouts over the top of anyone else who tries to participate in the debate, I suppose I'd have to agree. :-\
Good between the sheets?
I think I just threw up a little. :(

There is no such thing - we have British MP's in the British Parliment representing the whole of the UK  :y

Note I said "to the detriment of the rest of the UK", I didn't say anything about England.  ::)

If more money goes to Scotland, then it means less to go round for the rest of us, and that includes Wales and Northern Ireland.  ;)

Its like watching Wee Jimmy Cranky recite Marxist clichés - scary in all sorts of ways.
I think the Scottish referendum should be rerun, and if the result is the same as last time then Hollyrood  (and the other devolved assemblies ) should be abolished.
If we are all British we should be governed by the British Govt. in Westminster. If were getting a divorce, goodbye and good luck. Applications to join the British foreign aid programme should be made to the Dept. for overseas development.  ;)
