I feel I need to let off a bit of steam. The World now seems a place that is out of control. And it all seems man made.
For instance
The global demand for bio fuels has meant that there are less crops for food, hence the great hike in prices of wheat and other cereals crops.
Because these have gone through the roof animal feeds have had a knock on effect on dairy products, such as butter, milk and eggs.
What with the oil prices shooting ever upwards, our daily shopping bills have rocketed skywards.
I almost feel dare I say it that the blame lays fair and square with our Governments around the World.
What would you do? Put them in a dark room and throw away the key? Or maybe you agree with them and want to shake their hand?
Whatever delights you have instore for them let us all know now :y :y :y

Just get them bleeding and damaged enough so they can be taken to hospital to die a slow miserable death from MRSA.

need to get all the worlds greatest leaders ( bush x2, blair,brown to name just a few) together in a group. take them to trafalgar square, and give them a public bumming. that'll sort them out and set an example to all future leaders not to f*ck us or we'll do it to them.

Have a revolution, with the restored Vulcan bomber 558 doing a bombing run over Parliament! ;) ;)
No, seriously before Smillies People knock on my door, we must all make our vote count at the next General Election, thinking very carefully about the policies various parties / individuals represent. Make Politics Matter for you, ignoring the lies and falsehoods, with the real truth voted for. :y :y We are the People, and we must remind all Politicians that they represent us in our non-representative, indirect, imperfect democracy! >:( >:(

I have always wanted to win the lottery - pay to restore XR220 to flying condition and then bomb Dennis Healeys house - with him in!
I bet a lot would chip in to get the bl**dy traitor!
-
Do you know how many polititians I trust, not necessary agree with but actually trust?
Three
Yes just three.
1 Old Labour (I dislike his party but this man did a lot of good for UK industry)
2 Conservative.
I am a natural just right of centre politically and a bit of a libertarian but I have always noticed honourable intentions.*
There is your clues - guess the people.
Clues
Extreme left wing who few people agree with.
Best chancellor of recent years.
The loser of a run off a couple of years ago.
MTDM will get the middle one straight away
* This means private enterprise rather than state ownership and allow people freedom rather than be kept on umpteen databases.

What, for the bumming? Well it takes all sorts.
According to those in the know, Europe's cunsumption of food grain for biofuel is less than 2% of total production. Nowhere near enough to inflate prices in the way we have seen. So, actually, the whole biofuell broo-ha ha is another column inch filling fallacy.
IMO, media like the Daily Mail and the BBC are more responsible than the Government. For both the backlash on biofuels and the general perception that the end is very, very nearly nigh.

So is it a fallacy that it takes a field of biocrop, equivilant to a football field, to produce enough fuel to fill a 4x4's tank just once? :o :o :o

My post was about the impact of biofuel on the current increase in prices, as stated earlier in the thread. Whether it takes 50 kg of grain or a football field is kind of irrelevant. There are millions of football fields worth of land to grow it on. And farmers ready to be paid for it.
It also takes only a bit less than a 4x4 to fill my MV6. Does that make me a villain too? Or is 1x4 - well - just ok?

No, that IS the problem; there is a world shortage of land suitable for growing quality crops, and that is why it has been recognized that the days of "cheap food" are over! There is now a conflict between land being used increasingly for biofuels or for food, with poor harvests / climatic change adding to the difficulties. :( :(
The earth's population is at 60 billion and rising, as is the demand for quality food stuffs. The global free markets have adjusted the prices of food and oil to reflect the current shortages and those predicted for the future. ;)

I tend to agree with the media hype thinking, getting people in a panic overall sorts of things, ie credit crunch.
I do worry about increasing fuel and food costs and have notice a big increase in many day to day foodstuff, at a time when I am trying to reduce our mothly food bill. :(

perhaps if this and other governments didnt hand over our farming land to developers then there would be enough land to grow crops on. i know its not just this country. but all over the world. t*ss*rs, the lot of them

There is ample land for farming, but an awful lot of bright yellow fields in May. ::)

Just a few facts and figures for you to contemplate:
There are 23.5 million hectares of land in Great Britain divided as follows.
-- intensive agricultural land – 10.8million hectares, or 45.96 per cent;
-- semi-natural land – 7.0million hectares, or 29.78 per cent;
-- woodland – 2.8million hectares, or 11.91 per cent;
-- settled land accounts for 1.8million hectares, or 7.65 per cent;
-- water bodies – 0.3million hectares, or 1.28 per cent;
-- sundry other categories – 0.8million hectares, or 3.42 per cent.
So, less than 8% of land in Great Britain is built upon.
In terms of population density, Great Britain is the third most densly populated country in Europe, after the Netherlands and Belgium, with 246 people per km2. Compare this to say Singapore with 6,489 people per km2 and you will see that there is plenty of scope for increased agriculture for whatever purpose.
The question is, who is going to grow the crops? With the cost of agricultural land increasing at the fastest rate ever known it is likely to be large corporations who will tighten their grip on the production of fuel or food crops.

The world is changing at such a rate that new problems are emerging day by day. When I was at school in the sixties, there were two things that frightened the bejeezus out of people. Russia blowing us up and the population explosion.
Then,all of a sudden, the population explosion arguement somehow disappeared. I wish it hadn't because, as far as I can see, it's THE main problem now.
-
Of course, the population of Great Britain is on the decline. This will rate of decline will accelerate as the aging baby boomers start to 'pop their clogs'.
Can you have an accelerating rate of decline?

The indigenous population of Great Britain is decreasing but, with immigration, it's actually going to get bigger. Also, as the birth rate of white British people is decreasing, the birth rate of ethnic groups is increasing.
-
So, if we cant slow down immigration, we should sterilise them on entry then! :-?

Agreed. I wonder how many of those economic migrants will scuttle off back to whence they came if the economic climate continues the way it appears to be going? Interesting times ahead I think.

What are you on about? I'm stating facts. I dont possess any subtlety, I just say it like it is. There are too many mouths to feed, and it doesn't really matter what colour they are.
-
so do i, the debate is about our country and how can we support our own which will only become more difficult with economic influx!
-

Not quite, with the decline in the indigenous population, we need a degree of immigration to ensure the continued economic prosperity of the nation.
-
so do i, the debate is about our country and how can we support our own which will only become more difficult with economic influx!
The debate is about the whole world. It's all going horribly wrong and, I dont care who we would all like to blame, politicians, Osama Bin Laden or Old King Cole, there is very little anyone can do about it.
I sincerley hope that we are all surprised by the resillience of our earth.....otherwise....

Absolutely right STMO123! :y :y
We live in a global economy where what happens in this country or elsewhere affects us all. No longer (and in fact post ancient times we never could) can we survive as an island isolated from the World. We are all in it together on this planet of ours for better or for worse! ;)
