Hi all,
I'm getting an odd noise which is difficult to pin down - coming from the front of the engine definitely but can't make out where. Sounds like a mix of chafing and rattling at the same time as if something's loose or wobbly.
I was thinking of removing the aux belt then running the engine again to double-check that something along this belt path is the culprit.
Would this be the right way to proceed, do you reckon?
Cheers,

Old trick...length of wood to your ear and onto each area where noise is coming from until you hear where it is loudest....may help you pin it down :y

Not a bad idea. Thanks
I'll do that first and if I get a positive(ish) location then I'll take the belt off to get closer to it.
Hoping it's around here and not cam belt related...

Ha! It's the water pump pulley. Seems slightly wobbly and rough, but no water leakage though.
Runs sweet with the belt off.
I'll check for a maintenance guide.

Easy enough to change... when was the cambelt last done? As might be prudent to do that at same time...

Sorry for the delay replying Taxi Al, work happened.
Cambelt was changed only 15k ago, and I needed to get back on the road asap, so just changed the pump.
Struggled a bit because there's no maintenance guide for it, and the cambelt DVD is sold out - but I tried to remember what Mark DTM did when he changed the cambelt last. Seems to have gone on OK, but I had to do it through the front cambelt cover hole.
Just got to refill this morning then hopefully good to go. Thanks again.
Cheers
