Title: Do I remember...(Astra)
Post by: The Sheriff on 17 April 2015, 19:47:39
Mr DTM saying that the 1.4 engine in the corsa was a great engine? And, I presume, the 1.4 in the Astra would be the same unit?

The Astra weighs a fair chunk more tuan the Corsa, but that aside I believe Master did indeed say that it was quite a peppy engine :y

Peppy? Hmmm....I was thinking more about reliability and frugality  :-\

As an aside.... I decided to try and see, if I drove reeeeeally carefully, what I could squeeze out of my ice cream van (according to the computer). I've driven about 150 miles, mostly rural, and got it on 39.5mpg. Even allowing for the over optimism of the computer, that's pretty good. Fickin boring though.

ISTR the 1.4 had a rather convoluted inlet to downgrade it's power as it showed up the 1.6 which had a relatively small increase in power but a big increase in fuel consumption.

Can't remember exact figures, but when I looked earlier, the 1.6 was much thirstier, and £205 rfl compared to £130 for the 1.4.

My old Astra F LSi (Mk3 '94 L plate) had a 1.4 engine... C14NZ (single point injection) it was the 8v engine... used to get VVG mileage out of that car...

IIRC the Corsa had the 1.4 engine but was 16v to give it that bit more zing to it... but think it would depend on the spec... I think the Corsa LS was the 1.4 8v and the Corsa GLS had the 16v engine as well as leccy windows...

Yep, 1.4 is the engine of choice, smaller 1.2 is not enough go for that weight of car.....try a 1.4 Turbo ....they do shift and good on fuel to.

Of old, in the Corsa B there was the 1.4 single point and the 1.4 multipoint, these were replaced in circa is 1997/8 with the 1.4 16V which fly's in these light little cars.

You can't beat victorian engineering. :)

Was it designed by IKB by any chance?
