So, now The Lady has passed her Mot, next step is to go on holiday to the Lakes, so I'm happy, On returning getting her a full geometry setup. (would like to before I go, but sadly I'll literally have no time between now and tomorrow night)
After that I'd like to give the rear suspension a full refurb. I've got a short-term repair on the handbrake, but I'd really like to replace the backing plate with new or good second hand to eliminate the old problem of the handbrake pins pulling out. Also would like to replace the dust shields. I'm really thinking while I'm at it, so I want to be replacing the bushes, or is there literally no need/they last forever? I have paint and Poly donut bushes for the subframe, nothing else yet.. Basically looking at any tips or no-nos regarding refurbing the back end :y
SO glad to be doing the fun stuff now, and no big scary MoT deadline hanging over my head! :D

No no's ? Don't jack on the dif. Don't fit eccentric poly trailing arm bushes.
Do do's ? (;D) donuts and dif blocks. (Dif blocks aren't to do with the dif but hold the rear of the subframe up. Examine these for tears due to jacking, or seperation due to corrosion. Pics of these are in the rear spring change guide)
Rest is just shocks and springs and dif oil level and seals.

Fuel filter as well I suppose. I always forget those as mines duel fuel.

Already got some low mileage spare diff blocks, so that's good. Pissy's diff blocks actually looked in ok shape (I noticed purely as I was under the rear end lots doing a fuel leak... and the dampers... and the handbrake... and the brake lines... and the calipers... and the exhaust :o) And a genuien GM fuel filter as part of Keith B's brilliant 'ABS Service Kit' which is only £29 for every filter and sparkyplugs. Was going to let the engine drag any crud that'd been settling at the bottom of the tank into the old filter, then replace it after a week or two.
And yes, I only found out recently about never jacking an Omega on their diff. That was a shock, actually.
Ahh, Diff oil level, yes! Thanks. Anyone got recommendations for that? Might go for an oil change, can't be much more expensive than simply a top up.

To test the diff blocks, simply support the diff with a jack... ie place jack under diff with a stout lump of wood and in such a way that the wood is an interference fit.
Then undo the four bolts holding the diff mounts to the chassis. If a U shaped bracket falls of then your mounts are shot. If they don't fall off, either swap for the newer set and send me the old ones or bolt back up and forget them :y

Soak the Toe-Ajustment Rods with penetrating oil as a prelude to a rear suspension alignment. If yours are like mine they will be seized. No guarantee the oil will do the trick but it couldn't hurt and since you'll be under there anyway...........
