hello just thought i would ask you guys and girls as said i hope to take the kids (10years+6years+5years) camping to scotland in august and was looking for any advice of good places bearing in mind that it must be child friendly and preferably near a big,ish town as in 25 miles, ish, I was thinking of inverness area but somewhere to stop of for one night about half way (mybe about sterling) as i will be traveling from n ireland so it is a bit to long a drive in one go for the kids and then the rest of the week in the inverness area any recommendations appreciated

Arran is particularly nice at this time of year and they have a few campsites.

if your going towards inverness try aviemore/coylumbridge
the landmark centre is about a 5 mile drive north of there and the girls would have a time of there lives there but visit on a sunny day as there are water rides in the park

If your driving from Stranrear or Troon, I would go up the A82 via Fort William rather than the A9 and stop of somewhere around Loch Lomond the first night, where is a place that has Teepees for rent fully kitted out with beds etc and it's great fun for the kids :y

I will STRONGLY advise of Station Camp Site at Hopeman near to Elgin / Losimouth.... a quick skip over the dunes to the beach.. AND.... you can see dinosaur fossilised footprints in the rocks.... it's on uk campsite too:y
Also Achindaroch at Apin, Duror near to Fort William... WOW.. spotless toilets, showers to die for, a washer, tumbler and microwave handy if you're tenting etc, lots of walks close to and thru the site itself, there's Loch Linne nearby and the Sea Life centre.. There's the cable cars on Fort William too, that's a great trip, kids'll love it.... Oh! and the ice wall for trainee climbers is worth a visit, just to watch.
I'm going to Scotland in August, in our family tent.... can't wait, beautiful place and really nice people ;)
