I have had no dealing with these whatsoever in all the time I've had an omega.
So, when a member asked me to change an ac switch on the rad as the fans where on all the time, I didn't think much of it. Just swapped the top sensor on rad , (with dowty washer ::) ) and away we went.
On start up the fans turned on immediately. But they would if the ac was on. Right? Turn the ac off and the fans go off. (These are the fans in front of the rad/ac condenser) this seems like normal operation to me... Unless outside temp is near freezing and it would probably just use outside air below a certain temp so the ac pump and the fans probably wouldn't come on.
But, point is, generally speaking, ac fans are on with ac on. Is this correct?
-
Yes although speed varies with temp, so aircon off, a cooking engine will fire up all fans at full whack...
-
Ok so prior to changing the part, unless fans where on with ac off, there was no fault? Obviously.
-
I believe so. :y
Just had new condenser & drier on mine and climate control now working as should :y
Two fans at front on all time with Climate /Air Con. I believe it keeps the engine temp at a steady setpoint as when my A/c was not working engine temp certainly more variable and seemed to drift up if in traffic to then come down as single engine rad fan then kicked in.
With the climate on (best to leave on all time in my opinion) the two A/c condenser fans seemed to keep air flow on engine rad and keeps temp more stable.

Yeah I saw your post Dr. GM condensor and drier recommended? Expensive?
-
Should ad, I would of compared ac operation with mine, except my ac is oppsed. Need to check first, but suspect condensor and drier need replacing.

I went for this LINK (http://www.autoairconparts.co.uk/car-air-conditioning-condenser-aircon-radiator-vauxhall-omega-b-2-6-v6-petrol-manual-automatic-sep-2000-to-2013-part-16-6554.html) condenser which also comes with the drier bought this one on a recommendation on OOF, Works out at £84 delivered with 2 years warranty.
Can't say how well it fits yet but if the weather behaves I may have a go tomorrow seen as everything apart from the condenser has been removed from the car. The new condenser does look to be of good quality, Says made in Taiwan, Least it's not China!

Quite :y

Thanks for the link :y

With all the money you've got, £110 for a new condenser/drier is loose change, or ask his lord opti for a loan :D
-
I've just fitted that one on the 2.5 - slight bending of the pipes required but fits well :y Not as much weight to it as the original Delphi but hey if it last 2 years I m happy at that price.

I dropped lucky on the bay of flea. Original GM Delphi £160. Has identical GM sticker and part number, and drier, to the original one took off car. Original one had disintegrated :D. Will post PIC later. Got my moneys worth. Stealer were quoting me just under £400 for the Condenser ONLY and specially order from sausasge land. It did include the drier to be fair :D
Was a bit more than non gm one, but not that much more and dream to fix as brackets identical. Daz worked his magic again :y

Brackets are ok on the linked replacement and cooling rad goes in and out no problem - just slight bend required in pipes from the drier to match those on the car :y

Hope goes well. Here is the original one which was removed from mine :D I recon I got my money's worth after 15 years !!!
I think I found why the A/C was not as "Cold" as it used to be !!!!! Not shown up as good on pic, but bottom left patch is bright GREEN !!!
New one fitted as identical, even down to the GM Delphi hologram sticker and Part number :) Car ICE cold now I need my coat to driver her 8)

When you clean out the 10 or so years of leaves and muck from between the fans and the condenser and the condenser and the coolant rad it's amazing how much more stable (and lower) the coolant temp sits!
Those two front fans for the condenser also do a great job of keeping the temp stable in stop start traffic in the summer. :y

:y Definitely :y Temp rock solid now.
Touch something wooden, and that is all the niggles on the old Girl sorted :y
Freshly washed & waxed again and the old girl scrubs up well :) Better go and tuck her up in the garage under her blanket ;)

Fitted the A/C condenser and fitted the rad an all the gubbins back today took 2 hours at a leisurely pace, The radiator actually went in better than the job I had removing it, Condenser didn't require much of an effort to get everything lined up either :y
The old condenser is most definitely the original an is clearly leaking, Leaves an stuff had congealed with the green stuff.
Just in time also been a sunny day, Only just started to rain.
-
Well, ac guy just left. Had his yellow goggles and uv lamp on it. Condenser in good nic structurally, but it's got a hole in it half way up on the drivers side.
Not as simple as swapping as shrader valve. Sadly. :(

If your thinking of buying that condenser, make sure it comes complete with the dryer,as they show it separately, which the omega doesn't do. Should come fitted.
