I just read this out of interest. Any comments with relevance to either the V6 or the TD?

I think that advice has been given to me by members on here mate.....
However, if I knew what is was and where it was, I would probably have a go at it ;D
-
Best advice regarding egr cleaning I can give is take the rubber stuff off before using carb cleaner, as carb cleaner degrades the rubber - after soaking overnight the rubber was like warm liquorice! I have more spares than I know what to do with at present, so not an issue, but if this is your only egr valve, beware, as a poor seal going into the plenum will cause air leaks and idle issues.

Yes I know that is frequently recommended. What effect does doing this have on the, ever more stringent, emissions test? :-\

Nothing at all mate. The gas in questions s nox. And that's nit tested on an mot :y

Above quote true for ICV, not EGR. Apologies for any confusion! Long day! Agree with Webby, just blank it off, easiest simplest solution

Yet!
Reading the recent press on NOx emissions, I would bet they will test for this in the next year or two, and as I hope to run my Omegas for a few more years, I shall keep my EGR's for the moment. :y
-
They will need some very large and very expensive kit to test for it.....including a rolling road to load the engine up :y
So I would not worry.
Oh yes, for cleaning EGR valves, oven cleaner is your friend but, don't leave it in it for to long as it will attack the alloy eventually.

I blanked my EGR off and it feels quicker....?
-
Part throttle will feel quicker. No inert gases going to the cylinders :y
-
Naaah it feels loads quicker through the whole rev range, especially when the G cams switch on...

Er no, the only gain will be a slight improvement in throttle response when going from light load to boot down due to not having to wait for the exhaust EGR to close and exhaust gases in the inlet to dissipate.......all assuming it was working perfectly in the first place. :y
